A woman gets pregnant at fifteen years old, therefore she is forced by her parents to marry the father. She gets pregnant again, after three months of having the first baby, but the second baby is born premature. Two years after marrying the father, she mets a woman who she falls in live with and becomes her 20 years (until this day) life-long partner. Definitely, not the typical teen-mom story you see in MTV. This woman is my mom, my biggest inspiration in life and to whoever meets her. However, you would think that knowing my mom for 21 years, I would know everything about her, how she raised me, how she felt about having me and my sister and many other things, but that’s not the case. Through this interview project, I learned more about my mother than what I’ve learned in 21 years. Besides getting to know her journey as a mother, we mainly discussed one major subjects discussed in class (not included in the answers): reprouctive rights and abortion. As a teenage girl, motherhood was not in her current plans, however it all changed when she fell in love with a senior in high school, had unprotected sex and found out she was four months pregnant at the age of fifteen. As I interviewed her, she rise the concerned of how sex was a taboo and how her parents never discussed with her safe sex. They were aware that she had a boyfriend, but sex was such a taboo that they rather not educate her about the consequences of unprotected sex. The subject wasn’t even discussed in
This article was extremely sad and heartbreaking to read. It’s very hard to imagine what women during this time, underwent to handle an issue that is currently considered safe. I believe that Rosie Jimenez’s desperate action led to her decision. She should have sought support from her friend, instead of taking such extreme measures. I’m quite aware that due to actions like this, changes have been made to improve this issue as well as others. However, I still find it horrible that a young single mother pass away, leaving behind a growing daughter. Abortion is a very touchy subject matter but I believe that it’s an individual’s personal
The pain of a mother to retell her story about her pregnancy despite of the fact that the baby she is carrying has severe physical defect. On the contrary, a mother who tried to get rid of her baby for personal reasons that she hope will have a positive effect on her future. Judy Nicastro, author of “My Abortion, at 23 Weeks”, claimed that “I believe that parenthood starts before conception, at the moment you decide you want a child, and are ready and able to create a safe and loving home for her or him”. Aside from a practicing lawyer, Nicastro is a wife and a mother of two, Matthew and Kaithlyn.
Abortion is an issue that I have a personal connection to because my mother was going to abort me if I was a male. Even though, I do not support abortion, I do think that it’s the mother’s decision if she wants to abort the baby or keep it. I represented my point of view for abortion by drawing out the shape of the mother’s pregnant body. Then, I draw the baby who is sleeping inside the mother’s stomach. As you all know the unborn baby has an umbilical cord to get it’s nutrients from it's mother, so I wrote in the umbilical cord “It’s not anyone’s choice, but my mom’s. On the right side of the poster, I’ll draw the materials that is used to abort the unborn baby.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. However many People agree to disagree on whether abortion is a legal or illegal matter. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy through removal of the embryo or fetus. I support abortion for the following reasons. Birth control failure, unable to support or care for a child, to prevent a child with birth defects or medical conditions, and a pregnancy in resulting from rape or incest. A woman should have the right to do what she pleases with her own body. For example, say a woman is pregnant with no desire of keeping the child and there was no clinic to help her remove the fetus. She’s most likely going to obtain matters into her own hands and figure a way to abort the fetus herself. Why put women in that situation when they have highly trained doctors who can remove the fetus using the proper tools with no harm done to the mother?
Abortion is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus with the purpose to end a pregnancy or any other method for concluding a pregnancy. It has been a controversial subject across the world. There are many different methods of abortion varying from the morning-after pill that prevents the blastocyst from embedding in the uterine wall, to the common uterine or vacuum aspiration, which removes contents in uterus by suction tube (Mackinnon Pg. 95). Labels are given to developing fetuses throughout development. The newly fertilized egg is known as a zygote, when the ball of cells reaches the uterus about ten days after fertilization it is referred to as a blastocyst. In between the second and eight weeks of gestation the organism is
In her essay “Sex Ed”, Anna Quindelen, a New York Times Columnist, journalist, and novelist, describes why teens should be taught sexual education by family members and loved ones rather than by teachers (Quindelen 183). In the essay, the author states that girls know the anatomy of a female’s reproductive system, and can tell the beginning and end of the ovarian cycles but can still end up pregnant. Knowledge isn’t always the right way to getting a point across. Desensitizing teens to important information can often be the demise of what we are trying to teach. The author also states that teenagers do not have a tendency to think ahead the future repercussions of sex, they are too focused on what is happening in the heat of the moment that they do not think about pregnancy, or are to uneducated about the subject to know to be cautious. By teaching ones own children there are no misconceptions about what the parent wants them to know, versus what someone else wishes for them to know or to be taught. Teenagers also see virginity
I sighed and looked at the test, and she was telling the truth, I was pregnant. It was entirely impossible, but that is not what scared me. I threw the test away and picked up my phone. I dialed Ashton’s number, thankfully he was awake. “Dals, it’s three am? What do you need?” Ashton’s raspy voice had shook me to tears. “Look, I just need to talk to you alright.” I say and went into the bathroom. “Ashton, I just took a pregnancy test, and it came up positive, I really need brotherly fucking advice right now!” I cry and he was speechless. “Isnt Michael..” He trailed off and I stayed quiet. “It’s michaels, great.” Ashton sighed. Brooklyn had stirred awake and asked him who he was talking too. The line was quiet for a moment till Brooklyn had
Abortion is when a pregnancy is ended by emptying the contents of the womb. An abortion is usually the result of an unwanted pregnancy and is performed in a hospital or an Abortion clinic.
Howleen buried her face in her hands, just shaking her head and whimpering. The others just stared at Howleen in pure confusion and shock.
In first grade, a boy named John— a notorious troublemaker—systematically chased every girl in our class during recess trying to kiss her on the lips. Most gave in eventually. It was easier to give in than keep running. When it was my turn, I turned and faced him, grabbed his glasses off his weasel face, and stomped on them on the hard blacktop. He ran to the principal’s office and cried.
Once everyone was seated, Dean Hollis came to the front of the room again. “I see you all made it back from your tours in one piece,” he laughed, even though what he said wasn’t particularly funny. He noticed that no one else was laughed so he cleared his throat and continued, “Next, we’re going to hear from Jennifer Wentworth, our resident librarian. Come on up Jen.”
The way things unfolded with Shay made me realize that I didn't really know her. What person in their right mind would give advice to a teenager on abortion without thinking that the child had something up their sleeve? I wasn't sure that I would ever be able to forgive her. Imani could have lost her life, I still can't wrap my mind around how she thought that was what I would have wanted. Of course I didn't want her to be a teen mother but I would've never given her information about abortions no matter who she said it was for. That entire situation reminds me of what happened when my mother talked me into getting an abortion.
You and your mother gotten dressed and head down to a fancy restaurant. Your mother was planning this whole event since yesterday, and she wants to finish it off with some romantic meal together. Your mother looked at you, she could tell that something was distracting you. "Husband, what's the matter, don't you enjoy our time together. Is something wrong with the food?"
While many people are inclined to express indifference regarding this concept, teen pregnancy is one of the most controversial topics in the contemporary society. This experience can be devastating for some individuals, as the fact that they are raw makes it difficult for them to effectively deal with the problem. Society becomes more stressing and most teens who become pregnant come to express feelings related to shame and fear. The fact that these individuals are hesitant about letting their parents know that they are pregnant contributes to their problems and finding help sometimes becomes an impossible mission. Lack of life experience materializes into a more severe type of stress, endangering both the mother and the child.
A topic in American society that has proved to be an ongoing, and growing issue is that none other than teen pregnancy. In recent years, teen pregnancy rates have been increasing, which ultimately led to the topics increase of public and media attention. In American society teen pregnancy is often associated with negligence, as well as being irresponsible. In American society sex education for children is underdeveloped and instead society tends to use fear and shame to highlight/combat the dangers of unsafe or underage sex. American society uses fear to instill the idea that if you become pregnant as a teenager you are a burden to society. Along with fear society loves to shame its young women who have unfortunately stumbled upon the
