Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. You may have seen his face before on a penny or a five dollar bill. Lincoln was a hero to most citizens of the United States, and he still is today. President Lincoln was an abolitionist and is most known for the abolishment of slavery.

To begin, Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He came from a rather poor family. Growing up he had to work to support his family so his education was limited. As he got older he taught himself law and he ended up passing the bar exam in 1836. He then moved to Springfield, Illinois and became a well-known lawyer. This is when he got the nickname "Honest Abe".

Shortly after, Lincoln started his career in politics. He served a single term in the US House of Representatives from 1847-1849. In 1856 Lincoln decided to join the Republican party. Abraham Lincoln did not fully believe that African Americans were equal to whites but he believed that everyone was created with certain inalienable rights. He stated that all men were created equal. This was the end of the civil war. One of the many reasons Lincoln is a hero was because of his perseverance and strength throughout one of the worst wars we have ever come to face. He ended slavery and wanted equality for African Americans. He was assassinated on April14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford Theater. If Lincoln never stood up for equality then our world as we know it today may never be the same.

In conclusion, I believe that Abraham Lincoln was the best president of the United States. To me Abraham Lincoln is a hero. He was known as "Honest Abe" and helped to free those from slavery. Without him, we may not live in country where everyone is
