Abraham Lincoln: An Example Of A Hero

Abraham Lincoln was one of the United States best presidents, accomplishing great things, one being the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. As a government, with the help of Lincoln, we as a majority were able to agree that Slavery needed to be abolished. Not only were we able to agree, we were able to do something about it. In today’s day, we are more divided than ever before, on policy, social policy, foreign policy, race, privacy and national security, and many other things, resulting in very little getting done to better the nation.

A hero is a person that does something good at the right time without hesitation. A hero does something without hesitation, because they are confident, and strong. “It’s how you use your power that makes you a hero,” What Makes a Hero. This tells us that being a hero comes with responsibility and courage.

To Start off, what is a hero? Well a hero to me is someone who is admired or idealized for courage and outstanding achievements. To be a hero you have to have concern for others. intelligence is the most important reason of being a hero.

Abraham Lincoln was the great man of his generation just as well as he is considered a great man in history today. He made a huge difference that impacts us greatly today still. He is one of the main reasons to why we do not have slavery around anymore, along with some help of other people back then that supported him. Even though, racism still exist today it is not as horrifying and sickening as to how it was before back in the 1800s. Considering the fact that Abraham Lincoln ended slavery, in order to have achieve this he created many policies to permanently put slavery to a final end. Some of these policies were: The Gettysburg Address, the Thirteenth Amendment, Emancipation Proclamation, and so on. Slavery was a serious problem that needed a solution and he just so happened to be the type of man that never quit to achieve what he wanted or thought what was right until he achieved his goal. This is a great quality that he had and some of the reasons to why this man was and is greatly respected and appreciated before and today. He detested how unequal African Americans’ were being treated by the people that supported slavery and thought it was the right thing because African Americans’ were only three-fifths of a person. Obama states, “Somebody’s got to do it, and why shouldn’t it be you?” She takes what inspires her, applies it to her life, and tells people about it. Heroes don’t have to be popular or famous people, heroes can be anyone.

He was all for to help with the abolition of slavery, however, he did not immediately emancipate the slaves. In fact in 1864 after he had already issued the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln was not going to sign the Wade-Davis bill (148). It seemed like he had changed his mind for some reason or he was not content with how things were going down. President Lincoln revoked to sign a paper that issued a proclamation freeing the slaves in the territory they had conquered. Thoughts on President Abraham Lincoln are all over the place. Sometimes he seems genuine and some other times he has proved to be huge fake. Abraham had his difference as to why he worked around things the way he did. Douglass read President Lincoln’s deterrence to white prejudice and he concluded that he was not a true antislavery man (195) meaning he was never really there to protect the slaves from slavery he was jut putting up a front. He wanted to receive the support and votes from those that were antislavery. As the Republican he wanted the people to be represented in the decision that will be made and that eventually will affect everyone in one way or another. Abraham Lincoln is by far our most revered president in the history of the United States. He had a strong moral vision of where his country must go to preserve and enlarge the rights of all her people, but he was also a good man with a strong sense of character and a great discipline in the art of law; and he sought to continue the great and mighty legacy of the Constitution. He believed that the Founding Fathers had drawn up the Constitution without the mention of slavery because they felt that it would later die of a natural death. He would soon learn that that would not be the case.

American slave and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass once said, “ Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.” In order to see the true side of people, you need to be willing to find the total of corruption and wrongdoing which will be forced upon them. This will continue to happen until they are finally opposed. Heroism is the act of being brave and selfless, putting others before yourself. A hero will always do the right thing no matter the circumstances, even if they have to risk their own life to do so.

Without Abraham Lincoln, who knows what life today would be like? He made it that the Emancipation Proclamation made the end of slavery a permanent thing, and after his death the Reconstruction Amendments 13, 14, and 15 passed.

One of the most famous actions that Abraham Lincoln took towards the end of his last term and even his life was the abolishment of slavery. He accomplished this first through the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. “The Emancipation Proclamation didn 't immediately free any slaves because it only applied to territories not under Lincoln 's control. The actual fact is that legal freedom for all slaves in the United States did not come until the final passage of the Thirteenth Amendment in December of 1865. Lincoln was a strong supporter of the amendment, but he was assassinated before its final enactment.” Even with Abraham Lincoln being assassinated before the enactment of the 13th Amendment, which ultimately abolished slavery, he is still regarded as the man who ended slavery in the United States.

Abraham Lincoln is one of the most well known presidents in the history of the United States of America. He as thought to be the man who led this great country through the toughest times it had to encounter. His determination to get the United States through the Civil War is one of the best things that have ever happened for this country. Lincoln’s argument about the relationship between slavery, the Constitution, and the Union changed throughout the Civil War. Lincoln’s view of the purpose of the war was to save the Union because of the southern states seceding from the Union. Everyone has their own idea of what a hero is and what a hero does. Most people think that guys like superman and batman are heroes because they have incredible superpowers and they are famous people who receive glory. Many people describe heroes as strong and indestructible people, however, heroes are actually not always famous and they are not always the way that society portrays them. In fact, most heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and have notable traits for society to follow.
