Abraham Lincoln was born in a small log cabin, in Northern Kentucky, on February 12, 1809. Lincoln’s father was a farmer and carpenter, and Lincoln’s mother died from a sickness called “The Milk Sick”. After Lincoln’s mother died, and Lincoln’s father remarried a woman named Sarah Bush Johnston.

Many were shock that he had overcome several prominent continents in the Republicans Party’s nomination for president in 1860. In the North many people agreed that is was fair to let the slaves be free, but for the south who need slaves for picking cotton were not so happy. People in the South, called the confederates hated the idea of freeing the slaves, and this is how the Civil War started.

Thomas Lincoln (Abraham's father) was a farmer and carpenter. In 1816 the family moved to Indiana where seven year old Lincoln helped his father build a log cabin. Due to his bad eyesight, Thomas Lincoln would make his son do the majority of the work. When he could, Abraham Lincoln would spend his free time reading books far into the night.
