Music inspires me. It transports me away from the world and helps me to go deeper where I can access memory and emotion as I paint. I am inspired by light, atmosphere, and sudden changes in the weather. Abstract Expressionism/Action painting from the 1950's is a sustaining influence as well. I am in love with the world most of the time and everything and everyone that comes into my life are put into my work in some small
Should personal vengeance be accepted in society? If personal vengeance did not interfere with the order of “polite” society, then the answer would be yes in my view. One of my criteria for proper justice is orderly conduct. In the context of the movie, personal vengeance leads to discord. The character of Carl Lee Hailey, a distraught black father whose daughter has been beaten, raped, and left for dead by two white men, takes vengeance into his own hands and kills the two men. This occurs early in the move and events snowball after that. The brother of one of the two murdered men decides to bring back the Ku Klux Klan to enact vengeance upon Carl Lee and anyone who supports Mr. Hailey. The acts of the KKK enrage many citizens of the town. Two groups are pitted against each other at the courthouse as hearings take place. One group sides with Carl Lee and is composed mainly of blacks. The other group wants Carl Lee punished and
When I was younger, I started with making collages, and as I grew older and developed a better eye for shape and detail I started drawing with graphite, colored pencil, illustration markers, and pastel. About three years ago, I became really interested in painting, which is the main medium I use. I use art as a way to express myself and illustrate my best memories the way that I see them. Using specific color schemes and symbols to represent my best memories helps bring me right back to that place when I look back at piece that I’ve finished. Art is my way of remembering the best moments in my
In the late 1900’s the art world became even more evolved from Impressionism, Fauvism, Futurism, and Abstract styles of art. Neo-Expressionism, a style of painting, and some sculpture, which emerged in the early 1980s, usually characterized by a return to figuration in expressive, gestural, and sometimes brashly aggressive works. This art movement was mostly associated with artist from New York like Julian Schnabel, David Salle, and Eric Fischl (Artsy.com). Of these artist there was one African-American, by the name of Jean-Michel Basquiat, genius of his time, and currently one of the world’s most renounced artist. His shaky upbringing along with his feelings towards situations in his personal life and cultural issues during is time,
During the time of World War II, Abstract Expressionism was one of the most popular arts movements. Abstract Expressionism developed in New York around the 1940s. Most of the art works that were created reflected on the artists’ emotion after the war. These paintings were not meant to be realistic but to express people’s inner emotions, which people were in not in favor of these arts pieces. Some of the most popular artists that were famous for their art pieces were Jackson Pollock, Archlie Gorky, and Mark Rothko. Abstract expressionism art has helped these artiest express their emotions in ways that cannot be understood because emotions are not concrete.
Wassily Kandinsky is my target artist. He is known for his abstract worked and how he used music, mainly instrumental, to create his pieces. Listening to music had helped Kandinsky get in touch with his subconscious mind, that helped him paint the sounds he "heard/felt" onto his canvas. The use of many elements and principles of design were used in his work such as line, shape, colour, texture, and much more. Being able to enter his subconscious mind allowed him to make his work look random and allowed him to make unplanned marks on his work automatically. This process of being 'random' and 'unplanned' is known as Automatism, which is an action that is performed unconsciously. Kandinsky being my target artist, I was influenced to use many forms of elements and principles of
Abstract Expressionism is making its comeback within the art world. Coined as an artist movement in the 1940’s and 1950’s, at the New York School, American Abstract Expressionist began to express many ideas relevant to humanity and the world around human civilization. However, the subject matters, contributing to artists, were not meant to represent the ever-changing world around them. Rather, how the world around them affected the artist themselves. The works swayed by such worldly influences, become an important article within the artists’ pieces. Subjectively, looking inward to express the artist psyche, artists within the Abstract Expressionism movement became a part of their paintings. Making the paintings more of a representation
The one thing about music though that really captures my interest is the fact that it can provoke and produce so many emotions in someone. As someone who has a rather hard time expressing themselves, music was something I could turn to in order to understand and better
Art is a form of expression, conveying a million things without saying anything at all. It is a way of telling a story, one of which I would like to share with you. For me, art has been a defining factor. It has allowed me to use my talent for the glory of God and has made me appreciate my faith of being a Coptic Orthodox Christian. Additionally, my artistic talent has developed over time, taught me a great deal about myself and has introduced me to new ways of expressing myself.
German Expressionism was a trending art movement from 1910-1940. The movement started in Germany, and after World War 1 spread outside of the country. The movement was focused on a few different themes: early on during Expressionism, painters rejected the old, conservative traditions and styles of art academies and instead used strong nonrealistic colors and distorted, simplified forms. This type of art was meant to surprise the viewer and evoke an emotional response. Another important theme was a strong interest in the enticing yet dehumanizing nature of the urban lifestyle. Nudity and sexually charged portraiture was prolific during this period. A huge theme was the emotional peace and comfort that nature provided for the soul. While this theme was present before the Great War, the psychological damage from the war led artists to seek the peace that the natural world offered. Other common themes include landscapes, portraits, and postwar politics.
The term “pop art” is used to describe the artistic movement that took place between 1950 and 1970 originating from England. However, pop art reached its prime in America in the 1960s. This movement was meant to be a lighthearted reaction to the seriousness of its predecessor, the abstract expressionist movement. Pop art can easily be identified by commercial items and celebrities portrayed in various vibrant colors and often shown in repetition.
At the turn of the 20th century, the amount of Americans who attended schools and became educated increased, which created a new mindset relating to cultural opportunities. As Americans became educated, the world of fine arts flourished, and created a new way for people to express their interests. Artists like Thomas Eakins began to embrace the world of realism, and later on inspired a student in the early 20th century. Other forms of art like abstract art, a European development, also became popular. Both Eakins and other artists were later faced with the challenge of battling the development of the European development known as abstract art. Abstract art was a form places like art galleries and libraries became more popular, and industries
The early 20th-century arts may influence many people in 2016, but I am not one of those people. I can go on and say that these 20th century arts have not influenced me in any way, but what good is that? I suppose these arts could have influenced others because in order to advance we have to start somewhere. Many 20th century arts are that starting point… yikes… but we can learn and be more innovative from that starting point… but what good is that? 20th century art is a foundation of art we see today… even fashion… unfortunately. We all have to start somewhere.
Ever since I was born, I am surrounded by art. Pursuing art is like my family tradition, I am the fourth generation in my family who decided to use visual arts to share our perspectives to the rest of the world. I am not the kind of people who are good at starting verbally communication. For me, art is the way that I communicate with others. Communicating through art, I was able to let people see the way that I see the world.
Art can put you in a zone. I remember one Saturday I had finished all my homework and decided to clean the kitchen because I wanted to surprise my parents for fun. So while I was washing the dishes I decided to turn on the music and I somehow could feel it. Not only did I finish the dishes but I found myself dancing to the music. One of the songs I was listening to was OMG by Camila Cabello. The song in general makes me feel powerful and the boss. Icould feel the emotion of the artist singing and expressing their emotions through music. I danced throughout the whole house letting the music take over my body. When I had finished in the kitchen I went the living room where there is more space and pretended I was a ballerina. I did a bunch of spinning and I tried new tricks my friend Mia taught me. There was a point where I became the singer. I had felt like a whole new person, it was like I could see the music notes. But the funniest part to me
Art is personal; an expression of inner thoughts and desires, affecting the way I not only see the world but myself. In order for a person to grow they must know who they are, their aspirations, the true nature of their thoughts, and their actuality of their persona; the physicality of art has given me this knowledge. With practicing in the arts I am able to grow as a person and I am able to see that growth within me. For with the expression of creativity, comes an outlet, an outlet of the unconscious, forming and showing the reality of the mind. This outlet releases internal emotions and helps me to find tranquility within myself. This state of mind is a supplement for my own personal problems. Also, I am able to create new ideas, ones that help me see the world in a new light. I am able to form a relaxing and mesmerizing state of mind, one that leaves me fascinated with the world around me, along with a deep love for simplicity. Visual arts have truly given me an insight on my own mind and happiness in my life. This is why I full-heartedly believe and practice in the arts, to find peace of mind, not in the world, but in myself.
