A lot of people have proven that power creates a big difference in a society. Individuals can come together and abuse it. Power is what makes people feel superior to others. Power has a negative effect on others because people with power control people and treat those beneath them with contempt. Those with power control people. In Antigone by Sophocles, king Creon used his power to control his kingdom and that made people fear him. When King Creon made his edict about Polyneices not been given a proper burial, the Choragos agreed to the king’s will without complaining, no one dared to argue with the king. The Choragos knew that agreeing to that wasn’t the right thing to do. In the city of Thebes, the king had control over everything including what came from their mouth, the only thing that they could say was anything that supported what the king said. People treat undocumented women with contempt. For many women living in the US illegally, fear of those in authority is greater than the fear of their abusive partners. A lot of people don’t treat undocumented people with respect. They come home drunk and high on drugs, they yell at their wives in front of their kids and when their wives try to talk to them quietly, their husbands throw them on the ground and start kicking and punching them like they are some kind of an animal. The husbands treat their wives how they like because they know their wives can't do anything like reporting them to the police because they don’t want to be deported. They just have to bear the pain, the suffering and they don’t have a voice to speak for themselves. They just have to bear being treated like their live don’t matter by the people who have power over them.
