“Macbeth” is a drama written by William Shakespeare back in 1606. Macbeth is a story about a scottish general who becomes king from killing the king and slowly descends into madness. The theme of the play is how over ambition causes the downfall of great people. Macbeth is consumed by greed and power which causes him to lose touch with his own humanity. Blood is spilled to feed Macbeth’s madness and is the major imagery throughout the play. People begin to turn on each other and slowly thirst for blood, showing the cruelty in humanity. Fate blinds many with riches and power.
Many famous people have met their demise from their ambition for power, love, money, and etc. Whenever somebody gains enough fortune with something, they begin to have thoughts of going beyond what they have earned, how risking it all can be extremely rewarding at the end. Macbeth

From the very beginning, where the very first line from king Duncan is “What bloody man is that?” and the very end, where Macbeth’s head is stuck on a pike. Blood is usually represented as a stain of guilt during the play. A good example is when Queen Macbeth is sleepwalking and saying “Out, damned spot! Out, I say!”. The spot is blood and can be compared to the guilt and Queen Macbeth is trying to get rid of the guilt and wash away the stains of time. Macbeth also shows the guilt of him killing the king by having a vast amount of it on his hands when he walks out of the kings chambers, after killing the king. Blood becomes what Macbeth craves for and proceeds to kill off Macduff’s family and friends as a sign of fear. Macbeth goes from a heroic figure to a bloodthirsty tyrant by the end of the play, showing Macbeth’s true cruelty lurking beneath himself. The cruelty of Macbeth is shown by how rude he is to everyone in the later acts, and by how murderous he is. Macbeth wants to have the highest authority in Scotland and his ambition has caused him to go to the extremes. Such as hiring people to kill people for him. Macbeth has a hypocritical mindset. For example, he finds it normal to kill in a battle, but he disapproves of killing people in order to protect his status in society. He was forced to Kill King Duncan because of Lady Macbeth, but when he wanted Banquo and his son dead he had to hire people to do his dirty work.

The imagery of blood in Shakespeare's, Macbeth represents the guilt felt by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth due to their brutal actions, thus developing the theme ‘the corrupting power of unchecked ambition’. As their guilt grows, so does the importance of the blood imagery and how it haunts both characters, staining their soul.
Power corrupts the weak minded into doing deeds that are immoral. This is a run on theme in Shakespeare's “The Tragedy of Macbeth”, where both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth take the opportunity to seize the throne of King Duncan by murdering him in his sleep. As a result, while Macbeth was able to take the throne, the power he gained corrupted both him and Lady Macbeth, leading to their ultimate demise.
Throughout the story of Macbeth the main character, whom the story is named after, starts as a loyal and righteous soldier who quickly evolves into a power hungry, immoral murderer. In the beginning, three witches appear to Macbeth and Banquo promising the crown to Macbeth. The only problem with this prophecy is Macbeth does not just acquire the throne naturally he has people standing in his way that inhibit him from becoming King. At first, Macbeth is timid and moral while his wife tries to persuade him to kill for the crown, but as the story progresses he throws all of his previous ethics out the window and will do anything to become King. Are all people power hungry trying to get to the top of some virtual ladder with no discretion to what they are capable of to get their dose of power? Are they like an addict which was shown in the writing of Macbeth or does power corrupt with over whelming ecstasy kicking off a thirst for power that will never be satisfied? In any case Macbeth’s only crimes were not being suited to be king for the power crushed him like a piece of grain going through a mill.

There are countless moments in our lifetime that we can correlate to Macbeth and his time of ruling. Macbeth is a playwright written on the topic of a tragedy and the idea of how power and greed can easily change one’s perception of the world. It was created by William Shakespeare, and first performed in 1606. This story takes place in the tenth century during the rule of King Duncan. Witches showed power of being king to Macbeth’s mind, which indulges him to kill King Duncan and take his unjustified position as king. A reason in which Macbeth is very relevant in today's society, is mainly since many cruel and deranged events are happening just like what Macbeth did.
