For example, if a student has good grades, helps others in class, and works hard, they are a great example of Academic Decorum. Academic decorum can also depend on the student's personality. If the student is someone who will blurt out in class to get attention, then they aren't being a good example of Academic Decorum. Being a good example of Academic inside the classroom can also help you outside the classroom. When you apply for a job and you are the type of person who isn’t lazy and follows directions, then you have a better chance of getting the job than someone who slacks off and is disrespectful. It can also help you in college when the professors can’t spend as much one on one time with you because you pay attention and get the work that you’re supposed to get done done. …show more content…
I feel this way because I don’t distract others in class, I get my homework done, and I pay attention. These are all good examples of Academic Decorum. But I also have some bad habits that don’t apply to good Academic Decorum. I can get lazy if I feel too stressed out, I don’t usually add to group discussions, and I don’t help others’ in class often enough. “The Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, is a novel in which the theme of savagery versus civilization is explored. Several British boys are stranded on an isolated island at the time of an imaginary nuclear war. On the island, we see conflict between two main characters, Jack and Ralph, who respectively represent civilization and savagery. This has quite the effect on the rest of the boys throughout the novel as they delve further and further into savagery.
The principle of academic integrity stretches beyond the limits of a classroom. Good students are honest with themselves, their professors, their roommates, and their community.
After having read the Academic Integrity policy and everything that it includes, I would have to state that my understanding of this policy is that it is a policy of pure honesty and trust. This policy, to my understanding, is exactly what it says it is. This policy is all about integrity. Integrity, by my definition, is doing what is right when nobody is watching. In other words, integrity is doing what is expected of you, even if/when you are by yourself. Integrity encompasses a large group of admirable traits, such as trustworthiness, honesty, and good morals. So, when applying integrity into school, the Academic Integrity policy comes into play.
I wholeheartedly understand the seriousness of my action. By violating the academic integrity and submitting someone else's work as my own does not demonstrate who I am as a student more importantly as a student. I accept the consequence for my action, as I realize this a significant violation of what Prep stands for. Their is no excuse for what I did, and I understand that. The relationship between the two nations has been noted by many scholars that there is a noticeable affront that has been built between the youth of the Japanese and the youth of the Chinese, which began in the 19th century when Japan began its rise to power in East Asia (Westad, 2013). The rise of Japan during the 19th century was seen as a slap in the face to the Chinese, who believed that they should be in control of East Asia that they were supposed to be the chosen nation, the leader of East Asia. These ideologies were said to be passed down from one generation to the next beginning under the leadership of Mao Zedong, and the founders of the Chinese Communist Party to the today (Westad, 2013).
In today’s society, school is no longer about learning new material nor fully understanding the material, rather it is about getting the passing grade, which leads students to act upon instinct and perform questionable actions including: cheating, plagiarizing and stealing. Therefore, it is necessary for schools, such as my own, to implement an honor code in order to cultivate academic integrity, promote a healthy academic environment since it is adaptable to any school domain.
First, establishing an honor code will mold integrity into a social norm. Likewise, enforcing rules to eliminate cheating and unoriginal content remarkably impacts the culture of the school. By enforcing strict rules and punishments into the school's system, students gradually grow aware and take pre-cautions. As a result, "peer culture [develops] on honor code campuses... Prior to completing the Academic Integrity Program, I thought academic integrity was as simple “not cheating.” I considered it a policy solely implemented to ensure that students learned the material. To me, cheating was mostly plagiarism, or trying to pass off someone else’s work as your own. What does Academic Decorum even mean? Well Academic means of relating to education and scholarship; Decorum means behavior in keeping with good taste and etiquette, standard of behavior. Let’s make this simple it, all we have to do is put them together. So it basically means your standard behavior through your school and/or college yrs. It’s that simple,but you need to stay with it. You need to stay with that Academic Decorum and you would make it through school with little struggle and stress from your teachers giving you that look of warning and be careful what you do. Like you shouldn’t copy other students with consistent talking. For example talking with your friend about what they had for dinner or gossip on what Rebbecca did at lunch. Also, don’t be on your phone if you have stuff to do. Not only does that show you don’t care it shows the teacher that you aren’t very trustworthy if you are on it consistently and not getting anything done. During class you might be shy or nervous; don’t be you will do fine even if you're wrong. That just tells the teacher that you tried and put thought into that question he/she asked. Don’t be an attention getter. Don’t be that kid in class that wants others to see them by dyeing their hair or getting piercings on their face. That just gross and no one wants to be around you because they think you’re weird and dumb for that. Just be yourself and some people will like you for who you are and
