Honors College Essay: In its mission statement, the UIC Honors College is described as a community of scholars whose goal is to enrich the education experience of undergraduates and allow the faculty and students of all disciplines to interact in teaching, learning and research. Loyola University Chicago has various opportunities that help engage students in different activities that can help them raise awareness of the outside world environment. Loyola’s mission statement states that “We are Chicago 's Jesuit Catholic university- a diverse community seeking God in all things and working to expand knowledge in the service of humanity through learning, justice, and faith.” Under this statement, students are reminded of engaging themselves with the community and provide service that can help the community and demonstrate God’s faith over all purposes. Through the commitment of “learning, justice, and faith”, as a student, I am inspired to do more as a person for the community. As an international student, I am very grateful of being able to participate in the Engaged Learning Community of ISOM (Information Systems Operations Management), and earn more knowledge and awareness of the case study provided in class.

Both Larry and Sarah must believe in these core values because of the improvement in privacy and safety for their organization. When I committed to Maywood University I did not have the “Mission statement” in mind, I was not thinking about what their “Core values” were. Honestly, they didn’t even cross my mind once. All I was focused on was that they had my program and it was in commuting distance from where I live. The mission statement of Judson University does describe that they are an Evangelical Christian university and work on developing leaders that are representative of God. The mission statement of University of Michigan contributed greatly to my attraction to the school. Specifically, the goal to “challenge the present and enrich the future.” I think that this is a goal that should be shared by all schools, because education is an investment in the future of the world. By educating the youth today with the knowledge of the past, we continue to improve our future. I personally identify, and I believe that Universtiy of Michigan does also, with the quote “Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they shall never sit in.” It is important for people today to invest in a better future by being curious, pushing limits, and exploring our world. My life mission is to use my Energy, Sense of Humor and Empathy to Care, Love and Encourage. My world would be better if I am capable of reducing poverty or starvation throughout the world and provide education for the less privileged children because I feel that everyone should be given the right to learn. Examples are a great way to understand what a mission statement is and what it should look like. One example of an effective mission statement is that of the Xerox company, which states, “We believe improving the flow of work is core to helping our clients be more successful and making the world a better place. By providing our customers with business process services, printing equipment, and software and solutions, we enable greater productivity, efficiency, work capacity and personalization” (Xerox at Glance, 2016). This is an outstanding example because it includes the company’s core values, the ways they plan to make a difference, and their goals. These components were all part of the steps to writing a mission statement (steps two, three, and four). I see myself progressing in my field as well as in my education. I find my education challenging and motivating.
