Throughout his lifetime Qin Shi Huangdi accomplished many extraordinary, yet confronting? achievements during his reign as the first Emperor of China. Through his unification of China and standardisation of the language, currency and measurement system, the first Emperor made a significant contribution to the ongoing development of this powerful city. Additionally, the monumental structures such as the Terracotta army and the Great Wall highlight the Emperors wealth and dedication to conquering China. Shi Huangdi’s achievements were fuelled by his ambitious nature as he became consumed with the idea of power. Although an influential leader Qin Shi Huangdi was also a ruthless and egotistical tyrant whose merciless attitude caused detrimental impacts on society. His victimisation of scholars and destruction of all previous culture and knowledge demonstrates his desire for utmost control of the empire. Whilst Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi’s achievements have made a significant impact on the advancement of China, his totalitarian approach to leadership has been a topic of contention for many years. One of Emperor Qin’s greatest and most influential achievements was the unification of China and the standardisation of the language and measurement systems.
