In this paper, I will address two statues from the ancient era; the statue of Gudea created in the neo-Sumerian period and the ancient Greek statue of the Kouros made in the archaic period. These two works are separated by nearly fifteen centuries, and naturally the contrast of these sculptures reveals how people’s lives and artistic goals have changed over this span of years. Over the course of this paper, I am going to address what each work represents in its respective society and the difference in artistic style between the two civilizations.
