Autism and special education is a topic that will never go away. Over the years autism has been the topic of major debate, both locally and nationally. In 2005, Bob and Suzanne Wright start the non-profit organization Autism Speaks Inc. (www.autismspeaks.org). The Wrights were compelled to start this non-profit due to their grandchild being diagnosed with autism. Beginning with a twenty-five million dollar investment the organization is leading the way in autism awareness, research, and resources. Their non-profit is backed by numerous nationally recognized autism organizations. Autism Speaks Inc. is backed by three leading autism organizations, NAAR, the CAN, and the ACRE. Autismspeaks.org has an expansive library of helpful resources regarding autism, the foundation has an impactful mission statement, and they have a board of directors that includes individuals who have been diagnosed with autism.

Adam Richard Sandler was born September 9, 1966 in Brooklyn, New York, Adam is the youngest out of three other kids. Adam and his family members are Jewish on both sides of his parents. Adam is the child of Stan and Judy Sandler they had four kids Scott, Elizabeth, Valerie, and Adam. Adam’s main influences are his family member because he loved to make them laugh.

Eric Chessen, a personal trainer, runs a Manhatten physical education program called Autism Fitness. His athletes (as he calls them), who range in age from six to 56, all have some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). More than half of them are non-verbal. Working with those with autism requires Chessen to do a few things that are not typical of a personal training session.

I bet you’ve seen at least one before. You know, those articles on the news about someone with autism, doing something amazing that any typical person would never envision them doing. Getting elected homecoming king, being on a cheerleading team, or carrying out an act of kindness that even non-autistic people wouldn’t ever consider are just some of the things that I’ve seen. Though these are spectacular self-esteem lifters for these individuals, warm and fuzzy stories for the public and excellent publicity for wherever they occur, many often forget that autism is a spectrum condition, and functioning levels vary, from wheelchair bound individuals to those in society whose names everyone recognizes.

Already known to be a social activist and philanthropist by 2011, Mraz decided to start his own charity, The Jason Mraz Foundation. The foundation aggregates and donates money to charities with in human equality, environmental preservation and education fields. In the movie Pay It Forward there is a little boy named Trevor who gets the assignment to try and change the world from his teacher. Trevor was a smart and creative kid which enabled him to make a plan. His plan was to help three people so that each of them would help three people and it would continue to spread. Trevor put a lot of effort into this idea in order to help the people in his community including a homeless man, his mom, his teacher, and another little boy who he saw being bullied.

Mr. Allen is heavily involved in the Arts as well. In reviewing the required videos and reading on low incidence, there were a large range of how it affected individuals are processed by individuals without disabilities, these videos demonstrates what it is like to try to be normal with a disability.
