Addiction can revolve around a plethora of things, such as substances, drugs, pleasure seeking behaviors, cravings, etc. Addictions for many can disrupt many aspects of life due to the mere continuous and compulsive nature of an addiction. Addictions are almost always troublesome, and are often compatible with certain methods, that can help a person with their addiction. These methods can range from self evaluation, to therapeutic assistance. Each of these methods focus on certain aspects of an addiction. For example rehabilitation focuses on all aspects of an addiction and attempts to take on the problem head on. For example one may be addicted to alcohol because of their environment growing up was surrounded by alcohol abuse. While another person may be addicted to a stimulant such as cocaine because of the euphoria the person receives when doing the drug. All cases differ in many ways, but what doesn't differ is how each addiction roots back to a cause. There are many causes to an addiction. Some like mentioned in the example earlier can be rooted to what environment someone was raised in. Same goes for the other example, as someone can get attached to the euphoria of a drug or application, and can only feel happy, or the same dopamine when doing the drug. Another cause could be a stress reliever that became a constant behavior, which led to negative side effects. The website PsychologyToday explains further in depth stating, “People commonly use drugs, gamble, or shop compulsively in reaction to stress, whether or not they have a physical addiction. Since these addictions are not based on drug or brain effects, they can account for why people frequently switch addictive actions from one drug to a completely different kind of drug, or even to a non-drug behavior.” All of these can be related back to the cause of an addiction which can help with treating the addiction.
