Reflection on Addiction
My sister started using alcohol while she was 19 years old. She is addicted to alcoholism. In school, she used to sneak on weekends to buy the alcohol in the nearby mall. At first, our parents were harsh on her, and she was transferred to a nearby school so that parents could monitor her behavior. Since our parents were busy almost all week, Becky could ensure she got a bottle every day before the sunset when the parents could have arrived.
Each day she was becoming notorious, she could disrespect parents to an extent she could fight with her mother. The addiction becomes intense each day and after two years when now she dropped out of school and engage in smoking tobacco, among other stuff. She became addicted to the extent that she could feel bad when she doesn’t. She is in a stage of later excessive alcohol consumption which has led to uncontrollable drinking; she could not sleep, or do house chores. She developed a behavior of separating from the family. Most a times she seemed to be thinking a lot her thoughts could be intense.
Her addiction is classified to be impetuous incontinence. This is because the condition occurs when there is strong appetite, hurry or even when there is any up normal state of the body that wrecks deliberative process needed to arrive at a right judgment. There are two forms of impetuous incontinence which re all as a result of craving. Craving is a complex concept that is difficult to be defined but is common albeit
You crave it, you want it and you just can not stop thinking about it or, you just can’t stop doing it, they call it addiction. “Addiction is a chronic, but treatable, brain disorder. People who are addicted cannot control their need for alcohol or other drugs, even in the face of negative health, social or legal consequences. This lack of control is the result of alcohol- or drug-induced changes in the brain. Those changes, in turn, cause behavior changes” (What is Addiction). The behavior change happens when the brain can no longer see the picture as the “big picture”, with out the drug substance. That is when a person that has an addiction starts depending on the drug substance to enhance their experiences.
Addiction to substances represents one of the most insidious diseases known to mankind. Given the serious nature and sensitivity that surrounds addiction, the only viable path to recovery from this disease tends to be through spending time in a reputable drug and alcohol rehab treatment center. Any efforts to try to classify all addicts into one group represents nothing more than an exercise in futility.
Growing up, I dealt with a mother who struggled with addiction; to be unambiguous, she was an alcoholic. She drowned in her alcoholism as it pulled her down an alarming road. She was dreadfully depressed and believed that alcohol was the only way to make her feel better, addiction blinded her from what a great life she could have ahead of her. Not a single member of our family knew how to help her comprehend how much happier she would be if she could stop drinking her sorrows away. When it came to family events, my mom would try to conform to how others were acting and act “sober” even though she was already countless drinks deep in to drinking. Nevertheless, my mother just wanted others to like her which would lead her to change her outward
According to DrugAbuse.gov, long-term studies of drug use patterns show that most high school students who use other illegal drugs have tried marijuana first. Teens are often peer pressured into doing drugs; they get to comfortable with them they inevitably reframe to harder and more potent drugs. In Cole Meyer’s short story, “Addiction” the narrator is a struggling teen addict and his addiction continues to worsen as he ages. Meyer uses setting, character and conflict to illustrate the devastating effects of addiction on the individual.
The theory that I chose to use for the psychology side of addiction is the social and environmental aspects on the person with the addiction. There is no real definition of the social and environmental conditions of addiction but it basically means how the person starts their addiction whether it is by where they usually spend heir time or if the people around them are doing these drugs also. But some of these reasons include feeling that they have to use these substances because of things that happen in their home environment or also if their friends are using it. The agreements of this states that “Once addicts decide to quit, they must leave the scene, break all ties with opiate users and create new interests, new social
Many people hear the word addiction and imagine person that is heavily addicted to drugs or alcohol. Not that many people hear about soft addictions which are usually harmless thing people do in their day to day lives like listening to music in the morning or checking your phone. Although these things might be harmless activates you do to relieve stress they can be sometimes very unhealthy for you as well. Addiction- a primary, chronic, neurobiologic disease, with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations. It is characterized by behaviors that include one or more of the following: impaired control over drug use, compulsive use, continued use despite harm, and craving. The difference between addiction and abuse is often times unclear. It’s a difficult call to make as a family member or a close friend that is dealing with a person like this in their life, but ultimately it is a call that only the addict can make for themselves. There are tons of different sources and tests and questions out there that can be done that can

Addiction is everywhere, from celebrity tabloids, to television, and possibly to a family member or close friend. There is alcoholism, drug abuse, and gambling addiction; the effects of such are devastating. For example, the following excerpt is from the harrowing Leaving Dirty Jersey: A Crystal Meth Memoir by James Salant:
In the 1980’s, Nancy Reagan started the “Just Say No” campaign. This was an attempt to help people avoid the pitfalls of drugs and addiction. Now, imagine if the government started a campaign about drugs that was “Just Say Yes”. Opponents of drug addiction claim that drugs alter brain structures, change thought processes, and causes family issues. However, Aldous Huxley’s book, Brave New World, portrays a more irrational perspective of drugs where addiction is necessary for controlling the population.
In 1981, the iconic video game character, Mario, flashed on television screens made possible by the Nintendo Entertainment System, marking the beginning of video games taking over the globe. The retro, pixel interfaces of video games quickly strides to advance its graphics, gameplay and quality, becoming an ambitious industry as the years continue on. In the early 1900s, this was an unreal thought by society from the technology at the time, including a man named Aldous Huxley. The author of the novel Brave New World, published in 1932, Huxley creates a dystopian science fiction novel in which a futuristic society must be stabilized, kept together by conditioning the individual. The novel bares a resemblance to advancing technology in the modern day world, particularly the video game industry.
Whip let these issues get the best of him and realized when things had to come to an end. Whip tried to control his addictions 7 days before his testimony and he failed himself. When things like this happens that’s when drug addiction camp comes a long and rehab. He was sentenced to jail time and over the year he had become sober. He had to face the truth in order for him to actually help himself.
In the second phase of becoming addicted, we start to use more often. I started sneaking drinks when no one was looking I was 12 years old and where I babysat there was always alcohol. I would stare into the large oak liquor cabinet. Bottles of Jack Daniels, Evan Williams, and Smirnoff Vodka seemed to call my name. I would pour some into a cup and then pour water into the bottle so that no one would know I took some. At first, I would just drink that night but eventually, as time went on
For instance, clinicians would need to identify when the onset of the parent’s alcoholism occurred. The amount of time that the client has endured the behavior may have a profound impact on the treatment method enacted. If the client has only experienced parental guidance when they were utilizing substances, then the maladaptive behavior will be a difficult barrier to therapy. This is due to the substance abuse being engrained within his psyche and is a deep-rooted habit. If this is the case, then therapy goes beyond altering his behaviors, but changing his internal dialogue and response to common daily problems. Additionally, clinicians should inquire if the client has or is currently being abused by his father. The client is currently living with his parents and if he is currently being assaulted, the number one concern for the clinician is to ensure the safety of the client. Reese may require assistance in order to depart the hostile environment that he is currently residing if he has or is currently the victim of domestic violence. Finally, clinicians should assess the clients desire to become sober. The client stated that his favorite drug was speed, which indicates that he may potentially still be under the influence. Additionally, based on the phraseology utilized by the client, it
I was in the band in college and my sections drank and smoked a lot. There are many people that I went to school with that started smoking and drinking because they were pressured by their friends. I was one of the people that was pressed to drinking alcohol. I turned to drinking alcohol when things went south with one of my best friends. Also during that time I continued to have father issues, and I was doing an internship that was not going well. So I turned to alcohol as a way to help me get through my problems. I later discovered that drinking did not help with the issues that I was having; it only made it worse. Later on I got kicked out of my internship because of my alcohol abuse and went back to school to finish my
