To name just five clinical skills or personal attributes that I possess seems limiting because the microskill’s hierarchy remains the core of intentional counseling. I consider intentional counseling to be essential for effective therapy and it must contain many interlocking clinic skills and therapist’s attributes. Accordingly, I consider the five stages of counseling (empathetic relationship, story and strength, goals, restory, and action) as the core structure of a session that will provide me with a framework for integrating microskill’s into a complete session. Here, I will be able to complete an interview using my basic listening skills and evaluate the session with empathetic understanding.

Consequently, my personal attributes and clinical skills overlap and are confirmed through the following five stages:
A) I have the ability to build empathetic relationships with my clients by developing rapport and trust while remaining open to our differences. Hence, I form a working alliance with my client by finding common factors, demonstrating that I care, accepting my client for who they are, and I remain encouraging and affirming.
B) Because I am attentive and I remain curious, I am able to have a deeper understanding of the client by the way they tell their stories about their lives including their problems, challenges, and strengths.
