country today, are from India. As of the high demand for Indian academics several agencies have dedicated themselves on the recruitment of new lecturers from Ethiopia.
Advantage of expatriate teachers
The advantage expatriate teachers can bring is not only to teach in the classroom, but also to coach and train local teachers during on-the-job training and organization of workshops. However, short-term procedures raise concerns about their impact on the excellence of teaching and learning. Many countries, as well as Ethiopia, have chosen to employ large numbers of teachers on a contract basis. The plan is to keep the wage bill down, while increasing access to education. Many of the new recruits, however, are not completely trained. According to the government, compared with ‘regular’ civil service teachers, agreement teachers often have: - i) relatively lower academic credentials; ii) uncertain or no career prospects; and iii) lower salaries and fewer benefits. Contract teachers and alternative basic education (ABE) facilitators have less training (i.e. they are unqualified) and at some places lower salaries.
In fact, India is supporting Ethiopia through scholarships and undertake via the general scholarship schemes and cultural exchange program. Good

A announcement from the Ethiopian authorities to the Coptic patriarchate on June 28, 1994, demanded a theological college. In 1960, Holy Trinity College could be recognized not far from the court church. The registration of applicants during the first few years was alarmingly weak. The traditional clergy is mistrustful and does not recruit any applicants. As teachers, Armenian or Indian academicians were primarily brought in (Bishop Poladian, Dean V.C Samuel), however, an Ethiopian Second generation also came in being (Schutze,
The differences were connected with a teacher’s original preparation for the teaching profession, licensing in the particular subject area to be taught, strength of the educational experience, and the degree of experience in teaching along with the demonstration of abilities through the National Board Certification, in which all of these facets can be addressed through policy (Darling-Hammond, 2010).America has not produced a national method containing supports and reasons to guarantee that teachers’ are adequately prepared and equipped to teach all children effectively when they first enter into the career of teaching. America also does not have a vast collection of methods available that will maintain the evaluation and continuing development of a teacher’s effectiveness in the classroom, or support decisions about entry into the field of teaching and the continuance in the profession of teaching (Darling-Hammond, 2010). n order to reach the belief that all students will be taught and learn to high standards calls for a makeover in the methods our system of education in order to be a magnet for, train, support or uphold, and cultivate effective teachers in more efficient ways. A makeover that is contingent in a certain degree of how the abilities or skills are comprehended (Darling-Hammond, 2010).In the last few years there has been increasing
This essay contemplates my individual development, skill acquisition and exploration of teaching approaches; throughout and beyond the International Teacher Training Organisation (ITTO) program. The problems I encountered will be discussed; and their relation to establishing where my wealth of primary teaching experience aligns with English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching approaches. For example; efforts to reduce my teacher talk time compared to primary school education was important, correcting pronunciation in an appropriate manner and correctly pacing both my speech and activities were areas of development that were observed, reflected on personally and subsequently acted upon.
Ethiopia is a country that creates image of starving. In 1980, many countries of east Africa had drought, and political unrest so people displaced from their shelter to camping, In addition when people moves to other place from their village or town, due to civil war, it is hard to produce crops or grain for food. Therefore those all causes refuges who lives in camps specifically in Ethiopia in 1980. During that time Ethiopia asked aid for the United Nations so the united nation were showing to the world about Ethiopian famine so that it could get assistance from the world. European countries and America assisted to Ethiopia to receive food, medicine, and other material. While Ethiopian economic is growing fast in the world by 10.3 per year
For example Canada provides financial aid of one hundred and eighty six million dollars towards Ethiopia and many other countries are supported with over one hundred million dollars such as Afghanistan, the Philippines, Syria and many other countries. Canada has been distributing money, and goods and services to other countries in need since the 1950’s. Canada had started providing aid to other countries following the Second World War, and
Many states across the country are experiencing teacher shortages. Without enough teachers, we can not successfully educate our children. According to Glori Chaika “Forty-two states issue emergency credentials to people who have taken no education courses and have not taught a day in their lives. Many teachers are hired based solely on their experience leading church or camping groups.” (Chaika) Due to the shortages, States are allowing those who are not even qualified to teach. One can not believe that children are being educated as best as they can be, if those teaching them have no experience or training before hand. Another problem is that teachers are not being place in the fields were they can perform at their best, Glori Chaika also states that “One-fourth of new teachers -- if they are licensed -- are not licensed to teach in the field they are teaching.” (Chaika) Many teachers have very little knowledge on the subject they are teaching, “About 55 percent of students taking physics in the United States, for example, are taught by someone who never majored or minored in the subject.” ( Asimov) As a result of the current teacher shortage, the quality of America’s educational system has gone down. People are being hired with no teaching experience and teachers are being forced to teacher subjects that they are not familiar with. Adding to the current teacher shortage is the problem of teacher
The issue of teacher shortage today is continuing to grow. The effects of the achievement gap are reaching the teachers, not just the students: “...good administrators and teachers, who are doing their best under difficult circumstances, will be driven out of the profession…,” (Boyd-Zaharias 41). The achievement gap is part of the reason teachers feel they are underpaid, which happens to be one of the leading cause in teacher shortage considering, “Teachers were paid two percent less [than comparable workers] in 1994, but by 2015 the wage penalty rose to 17 percent,” (Long). Being a teacher requires passion in order to stay in the field, especially if the money in teaching is decreasing. Money is an important aspect for people when it comes to their careers, therefore, fewer people want to become teachers. This lack of teachers and the lack of college students studying to become a teacher leads to unqualified teachers and larger classroom sizes (Ostroff). Both of these causes are eventually affecting students’ learning environments. I chose this issue in education for my project because I have personally felt these effects, and I know others who have as well. As a future educator, I want to see better wages and better benefits, but this can only happen with qualified, passionate teachers. I plan on being one of them, and I plan on sparking a change. I am a future educator fighting to end teacher shortage.

If the Department of Education decreased the amount of teachers that are being recruited from the mainland, there would be less worry about accommodating and retaining them. According to an employment report conducted by the Department of Education for the school year 2015-2016, 12.6% newly employed teachers were non-residents (Hawaii 7). Though this may be a small number, it may be due to the fact that not many of them want to feel the burdening cost of living in “paradise”. If more teachers were enlisted locally, however, they would be less likely to leave their home. People want to give back to their communities. With the advantage of understanding how their communities work and what each school is like, the process of teaching will be much more engaging and easier than it would be for an
The purpose of exploring this phenomenon of teachers leaving their profession early in their career is to determine why it is happening and how it can be prevented in the future.
Ethiopia is definitely on the list to be helped. Ethiopia is one of the world’s poorest countries. There are millions of people in Ethiopia who need help. There is an estimated 14.3 million people at risk . There should not be millions of people that need humanitarian assistance, especially there being millions in just one country. Everyone deserves a helping hand especially helpless women and children. There should not be any hesitation to lend a hand in a country where millions of people are orphans. According to Dagne, relief organizations have labeled the condition in Ethiopia as famine
I have chosen to become a teacher because I believe that education is the center of a country’s development process and prosperity. I want to be an educator to play an effective role in my society’s revival. Besides, I have always dreamed to be a teacher; it is a passion, which I truly have since I was young. The strong teaching motivation, which I have is derived from the deep belief that teachers can make a big difference in their students’ lives. In addition, I believe that teaching is a noble profession, which should be taken seriously. I know that being a teacher is never easy; it comes with high responsibilities and obstacles, but I am sure that I have suitable qualifications, which make me eligible to overcome them. Education as a basic concept in my perspective is all about developing knowledge, skills, values, ethics, physical and spiritual aspects,
There are three types of contracts offered to teachers. First is a probationary contract which allows a district to provide one year contracts for up to three years unless determined by the board that insufficient support has been provided and a fourth year would be beneficial. These contracts are given to first year teachers or teachers who have not been employed by the district for more than two consecutive years. Once the probationary contract is successfully completed a term contract may be issued for as few as one year and up to five years. This contract is renewable at the end of each term if the board approves. The third contract, which is rarely given, is a continuing contract which will automatically renew. This creates a situation
There is a consensus among the concerned stakeholders that the quality of teachers is the leading factor in determination of student performance. In the case of United States, the student performance can only be given an impetus by the efforts which the state can make, under all costs, to develop and retain high quality teachers. The measures undertaken determine the level of turnover of the school teachers. Lazear (2009) similarly argues the length of employment is a critical factor in averse risks of employment a trend contrary to teachers treatment. The turnover of public school teachers will refer to the rate at which the state, which is the teacher’s
I am thrilled to work with these multiple services to assist the wellbeing of the Ethiopian community. I plan to focus on supporting education, health, Emergency Health Services, and clean drinking water for communities and families. I have focused most of my time and profits into Emergency Help for displaced people. This will assist some of the many people who are unable to provide for their family; whether they are homeless or unhired currently and cannot invest in a healthcare program, drugs, medication, etc. I pride myself in committing to assisting the Ethiopian community under any circumstances and I assure you that I will execute my task. UNICEF has provided me with $54, 750 dollars and I plan to take action in using this money in the most productive way possible for the families and people in need. I have also donated one dollar of my own money in order to reach the needed amount of money to fulfill the charges. Thank you for you time!
Teaching is a very rewarding career if you learn and understand how to work with the diversity of the classrooms we teach in. As teachers, we need to be more vigilant of where are students come from. Before we can teach we need to know who we are teaching and what background, knowledge, and customs they bring with them to the classroom. We must also be aware of the factors that are relevant to the academic achievement of the students we currently teach. There are many of these factors, but I want to focus on two; teacher quality and low teacher expectations.
