Social media is used as a form of communication that many people use to communicate with friends and family. “Any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other visitors falls into the definition of social media” (Nations). However, there are many pros and cons to the new communication system.
Social media began in a humble way in 1997. Today, social media gives us the news, helps us find marriage partners, let’s us instantly communicate around the world. It helps us find jobs, market our products without ever leaving our home or workplace. Today, thanks to social media, the world is truly at our fingertips.

Social media has now become a part of our modern day society and has a huge impact on our lives on a daily basis. Social media is the use of web and mobile-based technology to support interactive content. This content tends to be user generated and then might be promoted by other users to a new outlet or audience. Social Networking is a great
In today’s century social media is the main way to communicate with people with people all over the world. It has become very popular... even more popular than a text or video message. Social media is a computer technology that facilitates the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via communities and networks. The variety of social media services that are currently available can help benefit businesses, introduce an event, or even help you find a friend, family member, or long lost soulmate. Some social sites even help you find love. However, there are many positive things that can come out social media but there are many negatives too.
The rise of technology has shaped our generation in so many ways. As a child, I remember going to the library and checking out books when I had a paper or project due for class. As I got older the need for finding books or publications for research purposes decreased considerably. As I entered middle school, a class was being taught on computer literacy, and looking back on that class I see how important it was to get started early. I can only recall one time in the last three years where I stepped foot into a public library, and that was to place my vote for the 2016 presidential election. The fact that I can hop on my phone, and search anything I could possibly want to know about, and that information be displayed in a matter of seconds is an amazing and wonderful thing. The downside to the capability of information at your fingertips is that it causes people (including myself) to be lazy. Vocabulary and literacy levels are lower now, because you don’t have to read several books to find what you are looking for. I loved reading for pleasure when I was younger, and still do, but that was because I was required to read more to find answers to questions. Siri and Google have almost eliminated the need to do such research.
Social media is a slippery platform of communication with others around the world and has an almost equal number of disadvantages to advantages. It allows one to release sensitive information readily available to be viewed by almost anyone. As in the case of my subordinate posting negative things about me online, I should not have accepted his/her request in the first place, for a couple of reasons. When you are the boss of someone, it is best to keep your business and personal relationship separate. If others see that you have accepted that employee as a friend, it could easily be perceived as favoritism. Not only that, now that you have access to their page, you could see something you don’t like (such as that post) and hold it against them while in the workplace. This could lead to a personal vendetta, which could likely cost them their job if they don’t tread lightly.
Today, media has become as necessary as food and clothing in our daily life. Though it has enormous uses but its basic objectives can be enlisted as to inform, educate, entertain and influence the opinion of the masses. It is playing an outstanding role in strengthening the society. It is widely used to convey messages to build public opinion and awareness due to its inherent ability to reach to a large number of people. Media also has a distinct role to fulfil the educational needs of any society. It has made the today’s learner well equipped and teachers dynamic. It is apt to infer that the media has great influence in transforming society as the updates are available at our doorsteps. With the development of the society, we can see the gradual changes in the types of media and their effects on individual’s life as well as on society.¬ The literal meaning of media also points towards its characteristic which is ‘a carrier’ or ‘a mode’ representing an item specifically designed to reach to a large audience or viewers. This term was first used with the advent of newspapers and magazines. However, with the passage of time, the term
Expands market research, implements marketing campaigns, delivers communications and directs interested people to specific web sites.
With a lack of control over Social Media, negative comments can easily ruin a companies and their brand’s image. Once a post is posted it can never be deleted, and not just only can customers post, but so can the competition. Some customers get so angry when they get bad service or unhappy with the company/product. If they believe they will get more attention through social media then they could start rumors, and bad press about your company. I would like to share a few examples to show how their image was ruined
Where do you turn to get your information like the news, or to keep in contact with your family and friends? Social media is the primary way of getting your news, entertainment, and tools for everyday life. As you look around you many people are using social media as a source of their daily routine because they can access the information they are looking for quicker. Do you ever question about the advantages and disadvantages of uses social media to get your information? There is a credibility issues that arise form getting information that is shared on the Internet.
Discovering social media is the developing step of humans because it brings the huge benefits for the human. If there were not social media, people would not connect with their friends or relatives on Facebook, share the lovely pictures and the good articles on Instagram, watch the interesting movies on YouTube, or purchase items online. With the development of social media, it brings many benefits for people such as chatting with their friends and relatives through Facebook, Tango, and Skype, learning about the various cultures of all countries in the world, finding a job online, and more. An advantage of social media is “its ability to spread important information or helpful information” (Paine). Social media has become so vast and wide-spread that it is uncommon for someone not to have some type of it. Because of this, news can get to people quickly. This becomes helpful in situations like bad weather, natural disasters, fundraisers, and college recruitment. Social media has made it much easier for people to find and access important information. Without it, it would be nearly impossible for people to know what is going on in parts of the world other than where they live.
An advantage of social media is open communication. The ability to share photos and videos on social media gives you the privilege to stay in touch with almost anyone no matter the distance. However, too much of social media can lead to a fear of missing out (FOMO) which can cause anxiety in some people. “There is a ‘desire to stay continually connected with what others are doing,’ so the person suffering from the anxiety continues to be tethered
