Advertisement Analysis: The Cardinal Pride Marching Band

The photo that I chose for my print ad is of the Cardinal Pride Marching Band performing at the state competition in Fort Dodge. It was taken by Rebecca Griffin before our performance, and the band looks very stoic in their pre-competition formation. A photographic element used in this picture is symmetry. The band is evenly balanced on each side with the drum major dressed in white dividing the image in the center. I also left some negative space at the top of my ad. This keeps the ad simple, as I want my viewer to focus on the main point of the ad without distractions. I also thought that the viewpoint of this photo was very interesting and will grab the attention of its viewers. The colors that I used for both of my ads were red, black, and white. I used red because red represents passion and energy. The color black was used in the background of the text slides for my commercial, and black is associated with high quality and power. On the text slides in my commercial I used a black background with white font to create a high contrast that made the text pop. For this very reason, I decided to use a very catchy audio backing track from WeVideo’s audio library, which was royalty free. The audio starts with a large crescendo followed by a simple melody that loops throughout the entire track. After either four or eight measures go by, another melody line is added or the beat is changed. This layering of musical lines builds up the intensity and keeps the viewers engaged throughout the whole commercial. Also, during my videos of band students speaking, I turn the volume of the audio backtrack down so the speakers are able to be heard clearly. However, I do not completely mute the sound, because if I did, the viewers would lose the rhythm and beat that they are hooked
