As technology advanced the way businesses promoted their product and brand also changed. Technology and Internet has affected our televisions, phones, computers, and even home appliances changing how we operate daily. To keep up with the technological advances businesses had to conform to change, those who didn’t most likely faded out. Advertising has now expanded through various platforms. Advertisements can be found on anything from social media to newspapers. Sites such as Facebook and YouTube, have implemented advertisements before each video that can be skippable or non-skippable. Unlike lengthy infomercials, Facebook and YouTube advertisements condense the information into shorter time frames. Facebook ads can be anywhere from 30 to 90 seconds, being approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds. While YouTube ads range from 15 or 20 seconds up to 30 seconds. The question is, how effective are these advertisements?
To answer this lets look at the history and evolution of advertising. During the 1950’s Cold War, characters were built around products to create a following between viewers and brands. In the 1950’s the product was the seller being distributed mainly through TV or magazines. Today, ads are focused on community building and brand awareness.
