The NY/NJ AETC is part of a national network of 11 regional and 3 national centers, with over 100 associated sites. We conduct targeted, yet multi-disciplinary instruction programs for healthcare providers treating persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Our mission is to assist health care professionals through both education and training, to provide quality services and sensitive care to HIV positive persons, and to provide access to current research and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The NY/NJ AETC serves the New York and New Jersey healthcare communities by not only providing HIV/AIDS education and training to diagnose, treat, and counsel individuals with HIV infection but also, to prevent behaviors that lead to HIV transmission.

The aforementioned services and opportunities are open to prescribers working in agencies that provide HIV services in the community and service providers in both public and private practice settings who routinely work with persons with HIV/AIDS facing mental health issues throughout New York and New Jersey. Moreover, the CUMH is able to provide these trainings free of charge, through funding from HRSA.
Our faculty is highly experienced educators, practitioners, administrators, and researchers in HIV and mental health. Trainings are designed to address your needs. We make it our priority to come to you, when and where it is convenient.
ORAL HEALTH PROGRAM
In association with the NY/NJ AETC Oral Health Regional Resource Center (OHRRC), the New York State Department of Health-AIDS Institute provides in-services and other educational opportunities about the latest developments in oral health aspects of the HIV epidemic to dental providers working in agencies that provide services to the HIV Infected community.

This office at Broward Health is responsible for the accreditation support and training programs for the hospital. The goal of the hospital is to provide clinical training in which residents and students can develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values in clinical practice, scholarly inquiry, and continued service to the community.
One of them being IAS, or International AIDS society. It was founded in 1988, and is the largest association with HIV professionals. There are members from 180 different countries that work to lessen HIV globally. They put their money into the organization and promote HIV awareness. People with HIV can come to these professionals, and get help on how get the right treatments, and how to improve their life.

In New Jersey, countless people are affected by the HIV/AID virus. Broadway House located at 298 Broadway, Newark, NJ 07104 in front of oriental village “it is the only specialized care facility for people living with HIV/AIDS” (BWH). Since 1995, Proponents of Broadway house believe in providing patients with outstanding healthcare services. This Facility offers patient’s medical services, social services, behavioral health services, and quality of life programs. Through these services psychological, physical, and emotional needs of the individuals residing in Broadway House are met.
There are an immense amount of problems in Africa caused by the AIDS disease. Healthcare providers are available and located all over Africa. Even though they are available, they have only “enough medicine for long-term survival available for 30,000 Africans” (Copson, 3).
The knowledge I gained from this discussion and assignment for this BSN-level course helped me achieve the SLO of communicating and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to provide client-centered care. HIV screening is incorporated into my hospitals admission questions. I first provide a handout to the patients about HIV testing and education, then I offer the HIV test to the patients and I document if they agree to be tested or decline. One of the health programs offered by the Fortune Society is focused primarily on HIV/AIDS. This program provides prevention education and health care assistance for previously incarcerated people living with HIV/AIDS (Fortune Society, n.d). The services offered are: rapid HIV testing and health education, case management and discharge planning, and connection to quality care and treatment within the community. Another health program provides mental health services. The services are offered through the Better Living Center (BLC) which is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
