Trayvon Benjamin Martin was a 17 year old African American from Miami Gardens, Florida. He was badly shot by George Zimmerman; a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman called 911 to report that there was “suspicious person” walking through the neighborhood. He was told to not do anything, but he did anyway. As he approached Martin, he attacked him and shot him straight to the heart. Many historians argue that race has played a central role in the history of the United States. The statement previously made is a factual statement because there is historical evidence to prove it is true. Knowing and taking in count that there is a lot of racial discrimination for all different races, our main focus will be on the African American (black) race.

Even after two years passing, Trayvon Martin’s murder still escalates throughout the world. Trayvon Martin was shot and killed February 26, 2012 by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was the neighborhood-watch and said he thought Trayvon looked suspicious as he returned home from the store. He called the police to report his findings but disobeyed protocol given by the dispatcher. Zimmerman was told to wait for police to arrive and not to pursue Martin. The actions of Zimmerman and Martin remain unknown after ending the call. Police arrived to the scene of Trayvon Martin shot and killed with a bullet wound to the chest. In Zimmerman’s trial he was found not guilty to the murder of this innocent seventeen year old boy, Trayvon Martin. He claimed he reacted in self defense. George Zimmerman did not deserve a ‘not guilty’ sentence because of his assumptions without proof, poor judgment, and stand your ground law.

Treyvon Martin was a 17-year old Black American from Miami Garden FL, where he resided with his mother. In February 2012 Treyvon was visiting his father in Sanford FL when he was fatally shot in self-defense by 28-year old George Zimmerman. The evening on February 26, 2012 Martin went to a nearby convenient store in and purchased a bag of candy and a drink. While walking back from the store through the neighborhood of The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sandford, A member of the community watch saw him and called the Sanford police stating Martin looked suspicious. Zimmerman, ignoring the plea of the 911 dispatcher to remain in his SUV got out anyway and approached Martin, resulting in an altercation where Martin was fatally shot. Reports from the officer at the scene say that Zimmerman sustained injuries of the nose and the back of his head. Zimmerman claiming self-defense was not charged for the murder at the time. Many outpours from American Citizens called for justice. After a petition created by Martins parent’s calling for justice of their teenage son surpassing 1.3 million signatures charges still were not filed on Zimmerman. Finally, April 11, 2012 Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder. On July 13, 2013 Zimmerman was found not guilty of the fatal shooting of the Florida teen. This is one of many heart-breaking examples of the civil injustice that Black Americans all over the country are a victim to. Thus, creating a desperate plea for a change.

On February 26, 2012 an unarmed black man is shot and killed by a neighborhood watch captain. Trayvon Martin, 18 and unarmed, was strolling through a neighborhood when he was then approached by George Zimmerman, an armed neighborhood watch captain. Not all of the details are clear, but it is known the two had a physical altercation. Suddenly, Martin gets shot and dies. Zimmerman claims he shot him for self defense.

This was a case where a 17 year old African American, male was shot and killed within 70 yards of the home in which he was residing in at the time, located at Retreat at Twin Lakes Gated Community in Sanford, Florida, by George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman was a 28 year-old Hispanic male, who was a neighborhood watchman for the Retreat at Twin Lakes Gated Community in Sanford, Florida.

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, shot and killed 17 year old Trayvon Marin in Sampson, Florida on March 25th, 2012.In the police report, Zimmerman claimed to have followed Martin out of the convenience store because he looked suspicious and that is when the altercation between the two began. Some words were shared between the two that led Zimmerman to step out of his car despite the police’s order to remain inside the vehicle. Zimmerman also told police that Trayvon knocked him down when he punched him in the nose and repeatedly slammed his head on the ground and that he had only reached for his gun because he feared for his life. The incident ended when 13 year old Austin Brown saw Zimmerman lying in the grass moaning and crying for help. Police soon arrived after a 911 call about hearing gunshots in the distance from another neighbor (Gutman, 2012). Fine details from that eventful night that would later be used in the investigation and trial are still left unanswered.

As of 30 June 2006, the national rate of imprisonment for Indigenous Australians was 13 times higher than the rate for non-Indigenous Australians [ABS]. In modern society, there is an assumption that over-representation of Indigenous Australians in the criminal system is due to systemic bias. According to Snowball and Weatherburn (2006), systemic racism refers to any set of arrangements, procedures or rules that results in systemic unfairness to a particular ethnic or racial group. [REF2] Snowball and Weatherburn also found that there was some small ‘residual effect of race on sentencing’ which may suggest that ‘racial bias may influence the sentencing process even if its effects are only small’. [REF2]

An understated problem within the Black community today is that of internalized racism. Should a Black person stray from the status quo and main stream perception of American citizens from African descent as having violent-tendencies and being intemperate, then we are marginalized, and what is worse, we marginalize one another. I have first-hand experience with such marginalization from my peers. I have spent the preponderance of my academic career in a predominantly white community, which has greatly swayed my

The essence of this essay reveals the definition of human rights and the politics of its victimhood incorporating those that made a difference. Human Rights can be seen as having natural rights, a fixed basis in reality confirming its importance with a variety of roles; the role illuminated will be racial discrimination against African Americans.

In February 2012, Millions around the Country finally stud up to bring the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin to light. Martin was a 17 year old African American male in Seminole County, Florida who was gunned down by Neighborhood watchmen by the name of George Zimmerman. Martin was returning from the store on foot when Zimmerman spotted what looked like a criminal. Zimmerman notified authorities and was advised not pursue Martin. Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher’s orders and continued to follow Martin. He then confronted Martin and fatally shot him in the chest. When police arrived on the scene they questioned Zimmerman and decided to let him go free without properly looking into the events that took place. According to Zimmerman, Martin “fit the profile” of some of the vandals that had vandalized their neighborhood a few week ago. He fit the profile because he had on a hoodie and something strange in his hand (which turned out to be a pack of skittles and an Arizona Ice tea).

Zimmerman is a neighborhood watcher from Stanford, Florida and Trayvon is a 17-year-old high school student who lived in Miami Gardens, Florida. Zimmerman was assaulted for a crime that was un respectful. When Martin father reported a missing boy to the police, they went to Tracy Martin, Trayvon mother to look for the body. That day when Zimmerman shot Trayvon, Trayvon was on the phone with his 16-year-old girlfriend and she heard everything from what happen on the phone. Trayvon Martin was an African American teenage boy who was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman. They had an altercation and Zimmerman shot and killed Martin.

Racism is a man made illness that has spread upon humans worldwide and to this day, Racism is currently still a contagious virus. Racism is man's gravest threat to man, the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason. The idea of race and superiority has caused major social and economic damage globally; with a fire still burning of hate and ignorance will we ever see a conclusion and closure of hate of our fellow man. In my response paper I will highlight readings that have expanded on the idea of race, racism, enslavement and endearment of the African people.

“Racism the belief to distinguish a race with beliefs that they are superior to another”. As racism remains a major setback in America, it is in no Comparison to how it was like back in the days. From the pain it caused and the poor innocent people being tarnished on just cause of the color on their skin, this was a horrific phase to those who lived upon it. We have accomplished enormously but then again we still have much to improve. With the most discreet subtle form, modern racism is slowly catching up to us.
