Last week, I went to an African-Caribbean Concert located in Lee Hall Auditorium at Florida A&M University. There were so many great performances starting with little girls dancing to African music and ending with people dancing to the beat of drums. There was a total of ten performances at the concert and I liked that there was a variety of ways to showcase the talents. Instead of only dancing, there was poetry, and singing. Out of the ten performances, there were three that really had my attention throughout the whole performance. These three performances were Excellence Funga Alfia “Wanderlust Journey” by Excellence dance studio, the featured performance by the school of dance at Florida State University, and the song selections by Paula
The performance I attended was “Cape Fear Society Scholarship Concert,” which was a musical ensemble comprised of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a piano, a drum player, end even a bass. Jonathan Hill, one of the instrumentalist who played the drums, was awarded that night with a scholarship. All of the performers can play their instruments in an unusual way which is referred to as swing. I have never been to a jazz concert before so it was interesting to hear the saxophones play swing, it really gave me a feeling that I was watching the ensemble perform in the 1920’s in a restaurant. Also, a special guest Carol Ingbretsen sang along with the musicians on most of the pieces, I also found this very interesting. For the most part the singers
On April 11th, 2017 in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, I attended the GVSU “University Band”. This up-beat ensemble lasted about 90 minutes; the talented students of GVSU’s university band joined together to perform multiple different songs ranging from a Waltz to a Dixieland Jamboree. All of the songs that the band played for the audience were all well-known, popular songs that they all enjoyed. Having the opportunity to attend this concert has opened new musical paths for myself and has allowed me to enjoy and kindly critique something that I perhaps would have never had the chance to otherwise.
The concert that I attended was a charity concert, which was organized in Boston at a local university there. The South Asian Student Union of Harvard University organized the concert. I happened to be in Boston and this particular concert was organized for benefit causes such as using the proceeds of the concert to fund a number of poverty alleviation projects in South Asia. The concert was organized in a rather big room, which had a very big podium, as well as at least 500 seats that had been placed in it. Therefore, the overall hall where this concert took place was a typical auditorium setting with seating and a stage at the front. The concert promoters talked about different cause benefits related to alleviation of poverty in South Asia and that’s why the concert was organized. The organizers also informed the audience that the musicians wore traditional clothing so that the audience members could also have a good insight and understanding of the South Asian culture. All of ticket revenues for this concert were then given to a number of charities which then would use those funds to assist the different poverty alleviation programs in the larger South Asian region.
Last week Middle Tennessee State University ( MTSU) invited a professional Conjunto musician players. As a history class students we had to go and see their performance because Conjunto music is a traditional Mexican music. We had a lot of fun listening to their music and personally I would love to go again and listen to this music because this music is take you away back to the old Mexican music. Therefore, while you listening to this music, you feel like this music is talking to your soul.
It’s amazing to listen to musicians who do not normally play with each other come together and leave the audience in complete awe. That is exactly what happened on the day of Thursday November 26th 2014. The Bill Crothers Varsity Winds comprised of grade eleven and twelve students along with a few, talented grade tens went to listen to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra play. We travelled via a typical yellow school bus that took us to Roy Thomson Hall where we went right to the top level and took our seats. The seating seemed rather helpful because from a distance you could hear every instrument when you focused on it. It was beautiful. The band presented well with their “Penguin” like attire that was kind to the eyes. They appeared very organized,
I am pleased to write to you on behalf of Stephen McDougall Graham, who is applying to enter the Master of Music in Classical Performance Program of Queens College. Stephen studied violin with me during his undergraduate years at Bucknell (2001-05), and played in the Bucknell Orchestra, an ensemble that I conduct.
I attended a blues concert in Hayward and it was one of the most culturing experiences of my life. I learned a lot about the culture and context surrounding the blues music. I found the lyrics thought provoking especially, B.B. King’s “Why I Sing the Blues” sung by Billy Dunn. Prior to me attending this concert I hardly knew anything about the blues music or historical roots. I never listened to the blues before, so I am unaware of this type of music, but I learned a lot about this style of music and enjoyed it. I also learned about the impact Hayward had on the blues and blues musicians when African Americans migrated from the deep south to the then unincorporated area of Hayward, known as Russell city. Ethnically, the majority of the attendees were African American, the second highest ethnic group attendees were Caucasian. This makes sense, since the blues and jazz were developed in the south of the U.S. and is associated with Africans. For African Americans, the blues and jazz goes a long way back in history, more specifically their history. It is associated with African American history in America, as well as African oppression and liberation.
Going to the jazz performance at the Bechtler showed me a different side of the community in Charlotte coming together. At the Bechtler Museum host, an annual night of jazz the theme for this performance was Jazz Night for Lovers. They had two shows, which both sold out. The line to get in was so long and full with young couples and older couples as well. Once were allow inside the venue everyone took there sits and watched as a beautiful 14-year-old girl sing her heart to the crowd. The crowd loved her and her performance. Things got even better when the jazz band got on stage and there special performer.
On Saturday April 29 in the downtown area of Las Cruces I went to the country music festival. The band I went to go see was the Eli young band. The band was American country band made of a lead singer who also played guitar, as well two more members playing bass guitar, and electric guitar, piano as well as a drummer. There was so many people to see Eli young band I was scared I was going to be crushed being so closed on the stage. I don’t remember the title of the first song they played but it was more of a rock country then regular country and I liked it. It was something different to hear. People assume all country sounds the same, but they really mixed it with more a modern day country. From the beginning the one the guitar had an amazing
Plato once opined “Music gives a soul to the Universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” This Greek philosopher knew what makes the world go around and he knew that a signal angelic note or a beautiful song could possibly change someone’s mood. Kazual(Casual) an Americans Got Talent: Semi-Finalist, took a page from Plato. They are currently touring nationwide. An opportunity arose to meet them at the 2016 Ohio State Fair. The compassion and pure love for music could be seen in their eyes as they belted out beautiful runs, breathtaking falsettos and perfectly executed harmonies. Music would not be where it is today without this constant drive to use music to touch peoples heart. Kazual strongly believe in covers of songs. They take artist songs and turn them into their own work of art, like Pentatonic. They are no way comparable to Lata Mangeshkar, but the few songs that they have done has impacted the melting pot we call Columbus Ohio. Country, jazz, blues, pop, classic rock and bluegrass are but a few genres of music Kazual has sung at various stands throughout of the fairgrounds.
This year I am participating in the Area West Elementary Enrichment Band where I play the clarinet. I am proud of this because it is a large achievement in my passion, music. In grade 6 I was first introduced to the clarinet and instantly fell in love with it. Today I continue to play the same instrument. In Enrichment Band, I get to meet and play alongside other musicians who have the same passion and drive for music that I do. I also get to seek further learning opportunities within the band, such as the mc script I have received for the upcoming concert. Overall, the band is an excellent learning opportunity and I am truly privileged to have that opportunity available to me.
She was an ordinary housewife except for one fateful detail. A detail that only could be seen by someone with a keen eye. Even her husband did not know. Deborah Smithson was the wife of the popular politician and farmer James Smithson. That day she cleaned the house, washed the laundry, and wiped her magnifying glass clear. James was out at an important meeting that "May last for an hour darling, maybe longer". Since Deborah had all this time on her hands she decided to investigate her husbands papers. Deborah was not an ordinary woman alright, she was a spy for a famous business man named Rob Safe who was her actual lover. Rob had suspected that James was making a deal with the government which would make him rich and ruin
Since the beginning of time, music and dance has been a form of entertainment for millions of people. As audiences across the world prepare for dance performances, they typically expect to see something that is lively, exciting, and unique. However, what most audiences of dance and musical performances neglect to consider is the origins and importance these forms of dance and music have on culture. It is truly astounding how synonymous music and history have been and continue to be. Understanding the history and culture behind a certain piece of music only makes the experience more special than ever. People need to realize the significance music has had on the foundation and progression of each and every culture around the globe.
When writing a story, it is essential that an author implements certain elements that allow the audience to stay focused on said story. Through certain ingredients such as suspense, and the introduction of the supernatural, authors are able to transform their ideas into a compelling story that attracts the masses, this leading to worldwide acclaim and a growing assemblage of fans. This was the case with William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare is best known for his climactic dramas like Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. Through the implementation of the previously mentioned elements, William Shakespeare produced one of the most compelling dramas mankind has ever known.
After researching through several different countries’ central banks, I decided to settle on talking about the Bank of Japan. Currently, Japan’s economy is going through a rough patch for the first part of the year, stemming from its poor performance in the economy from the previous year. To better understand the Bank of Japan, I will talk about the Bank in five separate sections starting with the Bank’s background. Afterword, I will continue with the following topics: the Bank’s monetary policy, the central bank balance sheet and currency, its current economical conditions. Lastly, I will be concluding with a future forecast and my own opinion about the near challenges the Bank of Japan will face.
