Purple crepe myrtles are a lovely addition to any home's landscaping. They get their name from the purple color of the flowers that bloom in clusters at the end of their branches. The flowers only form on new growth, so it is best to prune back the top thin branches at the end of the season to ensure that there are plenty of blooms during their summertime display. These trees begin flowering in the late spring, and they don't stop until after the first frost. But they are still attractive during the chilly winter season because the loss of their green foliage and lovely flowers makes it easier to see their ash-colored bark that peels back slightly.

As I am reading this story, I questioned whether Calipurnia or Aunt Alexandra is a better mom. I think Calipurnia is a better mom for many different reasons. She puts more time into the kids than Aunt Alexandra, and she genuinely cares for the kids and wants to keep them safe. To start off with, Calipurnia puts a lot more time into the kids than Aunt Alexandra does. On many occasions Calipurnia has made things for Scout and Jem to eat or drink like a mother would. For example, she said, “she did give Jem a hot biscuit-and-butter which he tore in half and shared with me” (Lee 137). This shows that not only would Calipurnia make their every meal, but she would sometimes give the kids some snacks while she was cooking in the kitchen too. In addition, Scout said that, “We skulked around the kitchen until Calipurnia threw us out” (Lee 137).
e is strong evidence that the epithet of Poseidon at Kalaureia was Geraistos (Γεραιστός), a word from an unknown pre-Hellenic language.[2] A 6th century A.D. dictionary by Stephanus of Byzantium gives the names of Zeus's sons as Geraistos, Tainaros, and Kalauros, who sailed from an unspecified location and landed in different places on the Peloponnesus.[3] Geraistos, Tainaros, and Kalaureia are all sanctuaries of Poseidon; in the towns of the latter two, one of the months of the year was named Geraistios (the only other poleis (πόλεις) with this month name are Sparta, Kalymna, and Kos). It is also theorized that the epithet Geraistios (Γεραίστιος) also applies to Kalaureia because all three sanctuaries function as asylums.[4]

The short story "The Chrysanthemums" gives insight into the life of its author. John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902, in Salinas, California. The locale of the story is of key resemblance to the Salinas in which Steinbeck was born and bread. "Salinas was a typical American small town, [differing] only in location and a few distinctive features" (McCarthy 3). The protagonist of this story, Elisa Allen, also resembles Steinbeck's first wife. "Steinbeck probably based the character of Elisa Allen on his own first wife, Carol Henning Steinbeck. Like Elisa, Carol was a woman of considerable talent and energy who wore 'masculine clothes' and was 'strong, large-boned' and 'handsome rather than

When you think of the term “Flowers”, you usually think about its color, liveliness, and beauty until after it’s picked and begins to wither. At the time, people of color were treated poorly, so the story tries to get the readers to understand how the world worked at that particular time. In the beginning of the story, Walker uses diction to create an atmosphere of how joyful and innocent childhood could be. Ten-year-old Myop creates her own world in which nothing exists but her song and the stick she had clutched in her hand (Pg.1). Later on, in the story as she continues her journey she stumbles across flowers. The reason for flowers was to represent Myops innocence and then her loss of innocence. Wild flowers of different colors are being picked by Myop. The flowers represent innocence and the beauty of life. When the author states “An armful of strange, blue flowers with velvety ridges” the blue represented different as opposed to the regular things that Myop was accustomed to seeing, and the velvety symbolizing softness. When Myop picks the pink flower, this represents when she lost her
Stories sometimes have the power and meaning to change someone's life. Reading in general, can make someone feel like they are living in a different world. Usually writers have the tendency to add affection and tone to engage their readers more. Flowers, sound so pure and bright, but are all flowers meant to be lively? For Myop in “The Flowers” represents an innocent African American girl whose evolution to maturity and innocence comes to a sudden end without a warning.
Countee Cullen is one of the most well-known poets of the Harlem Renaissance. Born as Countee LeRoy Porter, Cullen was raised by his maternal grandmother for the first few years of his life. He later was adopted by the Cullen family to become Countee Cullen. With his adoptive family, Cullen lived in Harlem, New York, which later became the headquarters of the Harlem Renaissance. Being raised in the center of this all-black society influenced Cullen’s style of writing. The man’s writing style is distinctly demonstrated in his poem, “Fruit of the Flower”. In “Fruit of the Flower”, Cullen conveys the message that African-Americans should be treated as equal to white Americans. The song, “Team”, written and vocalized by Lorde, a modern pop
March is that special time of year when spring is on the verge of bursting forth in colourful profusion it will be time to think about preparing for the coming season. Even as the gaudy yellows of the glorious Daffodils, the pretty pinks and blues of pert Primroses, and the profusion of bright colour that is the flowering Forsythia appear, giving the garden a wonderful feeling of renewal these are just the vanguard
