After Reading Strategy Focus of Instruction: Comprehension Reading Level 4 Objectives: The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the events that occurred in the book to the real life historical events. The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of historical events and make connections about what events are true and what fiction was added into the story. ELA CCSS Standards: RL.4.9 Compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g., opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g., the quest) in stories, myths, and traditional literature from different cultures. The teacher will model by: After Goldilocks is caught by the three bears she runs away, I feel that Goldilocks should have gotten a lecture from the bears about her behavior and what she did was wrong. Now that the students have an example of a reaction, I will write this part down on the back of an index card. After they have completed copying the statements and reactions on the notecards, the students will form in small groups to discuss what they wrote down on the cards and they will decide on the most important ideas. To simplify the activity, the students will read their reactions to the statements after the read the statements. The other group members will share their reactions to the statements and then move onto to the next student’s statement. After the students have discussed in small groups, each group will share their group 's most important ideas with the class and there will be a class discussion. Now that the students know the steps, the teacher will walk around the class and monitor if the students are doing the activity correctly. The groups will be made up of about 5 students per group. The teacher will also watch time to ensure that the students have enough time to discuss in groups and as a whole class. Method of Assessment Informal Assessment 1- The first informal assessment will be the KWL chart. The teacher will collect the students KWL chart to grade it for completion and to check the students
