An all encompassing definition for age discrimination in the workplace is the practice of excluding applicants for hire or promotion based on the age of the individual. Related to the factor of age, age discrimination is an approach that does not focus on skill levels and job competency, and places emphasis on the calendar age of the individual.(Fundamentals of Human

In today’s workplace, employers have to be attentive in staying compliant with an immense number of laws and regulations. Reducing employment and regulatory risk can be the difference between success and failure in today’s competitive marketplace. Over the past decade there has been a rise of complaints concerning age discrimination in the workplace. There are many keys to business success, and focusing on age discrimination and how business needs to be able to differentiate between the different types of relationships within the workplace.
