In my opinion I don’t agree whether our age is the age of modernism due to several reasons, the first reason is the concept of “multiple modernities”, modernity is not single thing, and if we have to speak about a single modernity we are ignoring other modernities like Asian modernity, African modernity and south Asian modernitnies, so there is a plurality of modernism of different civilization and in different regions. The second reason is the adaptation of nation-state and the influence of western modernity after the rise of globalization and how this adjustment affects the societies in general. The third reason is the concept of the “clashes of civilization”, the world in history or in nowadays era is consist of more than one civilization, …show more content…
For example the Holocaust after World War II, the cold war, in Vietnam and the discovery of nuclear powers. Other issues that emerged as a consequence of modernity were the ethnic conflicts. Ethnic conflicts in many counties like Russia, India, Africa and Pakistan, these conflicts were the result of a reform of modernism. For example in Pakistan after the partition in 1947 with India, there were five ethnic groups Bengalis, Punjabis, Pukhtun, Sindhis and Baloch, some of these ethnic groups have its own state like the sate of Bangladesh and other who still have conflict to get its own state. In conclusion, I don’t agree whether our age is the age of modernism because in our age there is no singular modernity there are more than one modernitites. Westernization is the first that adopt modernisms, and it shaped many other socialites on adopting new institutions like nation-state. Yet this led to the clashes of civilization, when non- western societies had it’s own way of modernity and modernity doesn’t mean westernization, both are not identical. And finally the damages of modernity after World War I and World War II gave rise to some issue like violence, terror and
Though the start of the modernisation may trace back to the beginning of Industrial Revolution. “Modernism in the design world did not exist in a fully developed form, until well after First World War.” (Wilk, 2006) Causing the great loss of lives and other countless damage to the world, it reshaped many people’s way of thinking the world. With the inspiration of early avant-garde movement, the modernism began to emerge advocating an utopian future and shared certain core principles by various styles of modernists: rejecting the past and applied ornament; forms follow function, a preference for

Modernism is the heartbeat of culture, or as Clement Greenberg (1992:754) states, modernism involves of what “is truly alive in our culture” and it includes more than just art and literature. Western civilization began to interrogate their foundations and progressed into a self-critical society (Greenberg 1992:754). This notion began with the theories of the philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804); he criticized the means itself of criticism (Greenberg 1992:754). Therefore, Greenberg (1992:754) perceived Kant as the first real Modernist.

The modernist movement was meant to be a break from traditions and it was set up to separate the value of certain works from the conservative realism.
