I feel that as advocates there are many things we can do to ensure policies protect the aging population we work with. One of the many things we can do is make sure that if we work in a senior care community, we can make sure that the policies are updated all the time. If we were to be a housing director or a manager of some sorts, I think looking at the residents that you have and looking at the staff to see what can be better. I know that when I worked at a senior care facility, there were policies changing all the time and if a policy were to change then we would have to sign a new sheet paper saying that we understand the policies and what can happen if we would not follow them. I know, for example, we had staff that was using cell
In terms of health and social care, a care home may allow workers to have an input into what is included in the policy and making sure that it is clear to others what the policy is stating. All policies should also use a government defined definition of what discrimination is and then relate that to the
In every work place there should be policies set in place. These policies come from the law and make reference to the standard that is legally required in a health and social care setting. These include Fire Escape plans, Health and Safety policies and

In The Metamorphosis you have a man who turns into a bug and in Dante’s Inferno you have a man sending people to nine different levels of hell, but someway they relate to each other in many ways. Sympathy is what makes these two books so similar. The author makes the reader feel sympathy for the character but the author himself has no sympathy for the character. The Metamorphosis and Dante's Inferno have the author developing the story so the characters have sympathy towards each other but the author has no sympathy towards the characters.
working in the care environment we must ensure safe and good practise is provided. We are influenced and have such provides to help us gain knowledge such as national factors such as; codes of practise, national occupational standards, legislations and government initiatives. Working in the care environment it is an legal requirement to have an inspection every now and then, which must meet agreed national standards. If not, to result in the home being shut down. Also, the ways of working are set out in legislation and government papers. Every nursing home will have there own policy and procedures which you are able to read for guidance. Also caring and providing for people it is important we behave in a professional manner.
Advocacy is important in being the voice of the senior population, by implementing more programs which serves as the voice of seniors. These groups can make recommendations to healthcare professionals and organizations in how treatment and patient care can be improved. Changes in how leadership address the issues in senior care can be evaluated by addressing vital policy and program issues which decreases the effectiveness of patient care.
There is no doubt that the ageing population is a subject which has attracted much attention of Governments and communities in the world. Even in Australia, it is considered as one of the most crucial challenges which will have to confront in the next 25 years ( Hugo, 2014). Population ageing is defined as a change in the age structure of a country toward older ages. This is the repercussion of many elements such as the declining fertility rate, baby boom period and advanced technology in medical and healthcare extending longevity. While a number of studies have been done into proving this trend having several negative effects, it can be argued that there are many beneficial impacts both on national economy and society. This essay aims to look at the positive influences of older population on the workforce, then the Australian Government Budget, and finally the community.
The Aging Effects of Canada's Population It was 1947, World War II had finally come to a halt and Canadian soldiers were sent home. The large number of males returning back to their countries quickly made up for lost time which, in turn, triggered the Baby Boom. The United States, Australia, and New Zealand were all faced with baby booms; however, Canada had the loudest boom of all which lasted from 1947 to 1966.
Using Item B and elsewhere, assess the view that an ageing population creates problems for society
Something that American society has not experienced before is how to handle an aging population that is growing quickly and projected to double by the year 2050. The current growth in the number and proportion of older adults in the United States is unprecedented in our nation’s history. By 2050, it is anticipated that Americans aged 65 or older will number nearly 89 million people, or more than double the number of older adults in the United States in 2010 (The State of Aging and Health in America, 2013). Mirroring the aging of the U.S. population as a whole, the number of self-identified LGBT adults age 65 or older is expected to double by 2030 -- from 1.5 million to 3 million (Dennis, 2014). For a marginalized lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community (LGBT), the choice of a health care surrogate to make medical decisions can be very difficult. Issues of discrimination, lack of legal and social support, varying levels of relationship commitment, and complications of disclosure to family and medical professionals (Buckey and Browning, 2013, p.233). The purpose of this research is to address end of life care issues facing the aging LGBT Community which include; issues with advance care planning and surrogate decision-making, issues with a partner and family involvement, and issues with healthcare provider-patient communication.
In America, people are changing their views on aging and the elderly. Some of the reasons that the attitudes are changing could be due to more elderly people are remaining in the work place longer, as opposed to retiring early. Riffkin (2014). And there is the fact that we baby boomers are living longer. Even though the U.S. only ranks 53rd with a life expectancy of 79. That’s an increase of one year since 2010. (“The World: Life Expectancy” 2016)
The aging population in the United State is at risk for not only chronic health problems, but abuse including, physical, sexual, psychological/emotional, and/or financial. With the increase number of elders being seen by healthcare professionals it is important to know what suspicions to look for, to report accurately and appropriately.
Even though the elderly policies are a success to some extent in reducing elder abuse there are limitations too. The federal laws and the Criminal Code of Canada do not address particular legal responsibilities of ageism, such as compulsory reporting which remains to be left to state level legislation (Donovan & Regehr, 2010). Also, Canada’s pension policies for reducing mortality are expensive (Emery & Matheson, 2012). Moreover, older adults are considered in the ageing policy as unproductive and reliant (Crampton, 2011), which will discredit the elderly. The multiplicity of the legislative and programmatic reaction to elder abuse can be a major challenge for social work practitioners (Donovan & Regehr, 2010). Canada has a federal Criminal
If the advanced countries the existing retirement protection system is not adjusted, it will pose a serious financial blow States.
Canada is often associated with having a world class “free” health care system. While this is true, the health care system is not as efficient, or productive as many think. There are many reasons for the inefficiencies throughout the system, and one of those reasons is senior citizens and the aging population of Canada. Senior citizens put an avoidable burden on the health care system by extending wait times, increasing costs, and using resources unnecessarily and inefficiently. This is not to say that senior citizens should not be provided health care. They have bought into the system their entire life, and deserve to be treated fairly. However, changes to the healthcare system must be made in order to accommodate the issues that will
