The effects of the sexual and verbal abuse that Aileen Wuornos without a doubt shaped her view of herself as well as how the world viewed her. She had been abused practically from the moment she was born, as reported in a publication titled Serial murder and the case of Aileen Wuornos: attachment theory, psychopathy, and predatory aggression (Arrigo & Griffin, 2004). Aileen Wuornos’ life experiences prior to the age of thirteen were of abandonment, various forms of abuse, neglect, accompanied with an overall sense of not being good enough. As a child she had no control over her circumstances, furthermore she did not know that those actions were wrong. When she began prostituting at the age of nine it is doubtful she knew what she was doing
Aileen was born in 1956 to her 16 year old mother. She was not born with any physical or mental disabilities. At the time of her birth her father was incarcerated for child molestation and he was also believed to be a schizophrenic, he hung himself in jail and Aileen never met him. When Aileen was 3 years old her mother abandoned her and her 4 year old brother and left them with her own parents who legally adopted them. The family struggled economically and by age 11 Aileen would engage in sexual activities for food, drugs and alcohol. Home life was not easy for Aileen as she claims to be sexually abused by her alcoholic grandfather and beaten by her grandmother. She would also engage in
In discussion of the case of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, the attachment and life course theories can be applied. Ms. Wuornos was neglected and abused by her guardians multiple times, which led her to a life of criminal activity. She began with small-scale crimes at an early age and eventually escalated to murder. This paper explores how the attachment theory played a major part in the life (and death) of a serial killer and how many lives could have been saved had Aileen’s circumstances been different. This paper also explains how Aileen Wuornos was a career criminal and how that plays a role in her escalation of crimes.
In 2001, Andrea Yates drowned her five children in a bathtub in her home. This was very disturbing news. I am a native Houstonian. I was at home that day. The television was on and will never forget the news breaking announcements that broke the story of a homicide in Clear Lake. All the information the reporters had was a mother killed all her children then called the police to report it. The full story and the details that lead to this tragedy did not unfold until years later. It was sad because as details unfolded if Andrea Yates had been treated properly and followed her doctors
To say that Aileen’s start in life was a poor one, is a great understatement. It was a horrible life right from the start. One of the only good things about her life was that she never got to know her father, a psychopathic child molester, serving a life sentence in a Kansas prison for raping a 7 year old girl, who hanged himself in prison in 1969. (Arrigo & Griffin (2004).
The mask came off and Lewis witnessed the true person Aileen appeared to be. She treated her husband very badly; she physically abused him with his own cane and he feared for his life. Lewis realized Aileen was not his perfect match and there was no place for her in his high-society lifestyle. He filed a restraining order against her, and Lewis annulled the marriage just nine weeks after their marriage (Stan, 2014). She continued down a destructive path. In 1978 at age 22, the young woman started to feel there was no longer any hope for her life and there was no other reason to continue on living. She tried to commit suicide by shooting herself in the stomach. She was admitted to a local Florida hospital. Although she survived the gunshot wound, she admitted this was not the first time she had tried to take her own

Texas has always been a very conservative state that focuses on protecting the freedoms given by the constitution to the people. However, there are some freedoms that have certainly been challenged as time passes by. This is where the limited government of Texas usually has conflicts with the constantly growing federal government, especially during the last decades when some big problems and controversies erupted, particularly on the issues of mass shootings and gun control. When it comes to gun control laws, opinions are unequivocally divided between republicans and democrats. Republicans venerate and sharply defend the Second Amendment of the Constitution as right of the people to defend themselves, while Democrats yell desperately for gun restriction laws and even a change to the Second Amendment, these with the purpose of getting guns out of the streets and preventing other mass shootings.
Throughout the early days of psychology, opportunities for women where limited and it was an extremely difficult time for women to become apparent in the field of psychology. Women struggled for equality in the field of psychology and this began with our pioneers, Mary Whiton Calkins, who sat her PhD but was never awarded it, Margaret Washburn, being the first women to be awarded a PhD and Christine Ladd Franklin.
(2) She generally concealed her emotion, even when she talked about her experience of abuse and rape. While, she sometimes behaved dramatically and occasionally produced short-lived angry outbursts.
After Andrea's first pregnancy, in 1994, she started experiencing postpartum depression. She experienced hallucinations and a striking vision of a knife and her stabbing someone. She never revealed this to anyone until after her arrest, when she told her husband, Rusty. As research shows, postpartum depressed or psychotic women often feel ashamed or

The lives of certain people in this world can be ridiculously strange to the average human being. People, who grew up with the extreme strains and pressure of society, sometimes end up following the path of the life of a criminal. Certain frustrations, negative emotions and anger can build up over time from the societal pressure to live up to certain expectations. This is known as strain theory and a prime example for the life of someone who grew up with such pressure is a felon named Aileen Wuornos. In her case, she wasn’t pressured to live up to a certain expectation but her family mentally and physically abused her. She was a serial killer who earlier grew up in a life that consisted of child abuse, abandonment, neglect and teen pregnancy. These strains caused a mental breakdown and she turned to the life of a sex worker while using her murderous aggression towards her customers.
During Aileen Wuornos’ childhood, it is reported she endured years of abuse and neglect from her grandparents which were her primary caregivers following being abandoned by her mother (Arrigo & Griffin, 2004). Furthermore, reports state Aileen Wuornos was sexually abused by her grandfather, as well as her brother. The result of this abuse is said to have lead to Aileen Wuornos’ life of crime and murder, beginning at the age of nine when she began prostituting (Williams & Arrigo, 2012). Aileen Wuornos was unable to form a bond with her family which caused her to experience an attachment disorder and a lack of developing empathy.
The essay is written about Margaret Flow Washburn. The essay speaks of her background from her early teenage years and progressing through her career as a psychologist, her battles of a woman during an American period where women equal rights of educational progress was not the same as men. The essay also speaks on the contributions to her field of psychology presenting theories on the animal mind and her motor theory.
The abuse is usually frequent enough that the victim internalizes it. This leaves the victim feeling fearful, insignificant, untrusting, emotionally needy, and unlovable. Survivors of this form of abuse have a hard time understanding why they feel so bad (Munro, K. 2001.).
