Discuss the role of leadership and how it can impact organizational performance. The role of leadership is the most important part of an organization. Leadership is having the ability to influence people to trust, believe and follow the vision. There are several different types of leadership styles such as transactional, leader- member exchange, and authentic to name a few. Transactional leadership appeal to an employee’s self-interest which involves motivation in some way to get the employee to do what is needed. This way you will always know what monies are leaving your organization and who is getting paid. As a leader this is fabulous advice, in a nut shell she said protect yourself and your money at all times. This role of leadership displays a clear and concise method of communication between the leader and employees, by always having checks comeback to the person in charge or owner detours all employee for committing theft or potential dishonest act. It also shows that leadership is looking for trust from their employees.
Furthermore, an awful leader can crash and burn a company in a matter of months or years depending on the situation. For instance, Jeffery Skilling of the Enron scandal executives covered up billions of dollars of debt from deals that went bad making the company look like it was profiting when in reality it was bankrupt. This scandal destroyed thousands of lives because of the fraudulent act of Jeffery Skilling. His leadership skills were lying, cheating, and stealing. This is a prime example of a horrific and dreadful role of leadership.
