The purpose of this passage is to inform the audience with facts that prove that alcohol is related to numerous things. There are a lot of theories introduced in this article such as the relation between alcohol advertising and the consumers. Alcohol affects road accidents. From this article, it is proved that if alcohol advertising is banned and if alcohol production is closed then annually they will be able to save thousands of people who die during motorcycle accidents. The purpose of the other passage persuades the audience regarding the facts about minors and drinking. The author seems very persistence in persuading the audience to let minors drink alcohol.
The most important information in this passage is that alcohol advertising is related to alcohol consumption. In the end if the article, the author mentions that the consumption of alcohol starts with a kid. Even though drinking is strictly prohibited to adults older than 21 it seems that somehow kids who are 10 or 12 are getting in touch with alcohol and have already had that experience. The most important information in the other passage seems to be when the author mentions life changing situations of a minor. It seems normal to get married at 18 but not to drink until 21.

The author mentions about teenage drinking which causes a lot of problems in the society, but just as tobacco intake is strictly prohibited there should be more prohibitions on alcohol consumptions. The author also mentions motorcycle accidents that are correlated to alcohol consumption. There might be car accidents that could have been caused due to alcohol consumption. There are a few assumptions in the cons passage that show that there are more life threatening situations that do not include a minor to drink alcohol. Allowing a minor to drink seems very simple because the author focuses on more life changing
Simply remarking that such a decision is dangerous fails to suffice as concrete evidence of the negative effects of underage alcohol consumption, and so statistical evidence must be given. Approximately five thousand underage drinkers die each year; the most prevalent cause is, not surprisingly, motor vehicle accidents. What many do not understand is what other factors constitute the other approximately three thousand; sixteen hundred to homicides, that is, murders and other deliberate killings, as well as 300 to suicide, usually caused by an exacerbation of underlying depression or other psychological difficulties. The remaining thousand are usually caused by such grisly circumstances as falling, burning, and drowning. While this may seem a relatively small number in the vast amounts of the twelve to twenty year old age group, estimates are that within the past month one-quarter of underage persons used alcohol, while two-thirds of those were binge drinkers. Not only does underage drinking increase the chance of dying in related incidents it encourages other destructive behaviors: engage in sexual activities, carry a plethora of illegal substances, and correlations have even been found that links underage drinking to poor performance in school. Other observations have been made that negatively link underage drinking with mental
The issue of underage drinking has become a major problem, especially on college campuses. But, underage drinking is not purely the root of all accidents related to alcohol. The real problem lies within the unsafe underage drinking habits amongst youth. There are ways that these alcohol-related accidents can be avoided. Several organizations have been created that are targeting a change in the legal drinking age laws. One key way to lower the risk of unsafe drinking is to lower the minimum legal drinking age from twenty-one to eighteen.
Stating that drinking at a younger age causes more health hazards proves that having the drinking age higher would be safer for oneself and the community as a whole. In addition, younger adults could easily become exposed to alcoholism. It is stated by the National Highway Institute in a study done on alcohol abuse among teens that “the overall risk for alcoholism decreases 14 percent with each year of age that drinking is postponed” (Boulard 52). The drinking age should not be lowered because the higher the drinking age, the less risk there is for alcoholism. Not only does drinking cause health related problems, but it also produces risks of injury or death. It has been proven that “youth alcohol use contributes to higher incidences of drunk driving, traffic accidents, unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)…” (“Update: Alcohol Issues” 1-2). Not only is underage drinking illegal, but drinking and driving is as well. Therefore, maintaining the drinking age would prevent the number of accidents and deaths. However, some believe that drinking wine is good for the heart. This is only true for drinking in moderation. If one drinks more than a couple of glasses, this does not go into effect, and the number of bad health related consequences outnumbers the good. Studies have shown that “The lower death rate among moderate drinkers is due to the reduction in heart disease, specifically atherosclerosis or
Most people would concur that alcohol should not be given to teenagers. Despite the fact that we concede to this essential truth, underage drinking is still a noteworthy issue in our nation. Since adolescents need development and information with regards to liquor, they put themselves, as well as others in incredible danger when they decide to consume. Regardless of the risk, there are individuals out there who believe that the drinking age should be lowered.
T.R. Reid from the Washington Post published an article titled "Let My Teenager Drink." He states that if teenagers were allowed to drink at an earlier age like his daughters can in Britain, then the younger population in the United States will be safer from the risks of underage drinking. The teenage drinking topic is a heavy subject for conversations in the United States, definitely in the past fifteen years with death rates rising from underage drinking. Each year, approximately 5,000 people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking. Reid believes if teenagers were to have the ability to drink outside in public and instead of hiding it in "dark places", so much of the trouble are would be eliminated.
Alcohol is usually sought after within the adolescent community and has been an issue among young people. On July 17th 1984, congress passed The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 which enforces the legal drinking age and purchasing of alcohol in the United States to be twenty-one. Since then, the debated idea of whether or not the drinking age should be lowered to eighteen has been an ongoing topic for decades. Alcoholism affects many people in the United States but promoting it at such young age would not be such a great idea for the youths in today’s society. The drinking age should not be lowered due to the fact that it poses many dangers in the lives of teenaegers especially brain damages, underage drinking has declined since 1984, enforcing alcohol among teenagers may cause an increase in drunk driving and deaths and most importantly, teenagers who start drinking at an early age are more than three times more likely to develop alcohol dependency later on in life than those who started at the legal age of 21 or later.
Sub point B: Drinking under the influence is perhaps the most detrimental subject when it comes to lowering the drinking age. Many are scared that these 18 year olds will take the streets and cause horrific accidents but According to www.chooseresponsiblity.org last accessed May 18th ,2014 "... twice as many 21-year-olds died in alcohol-related auto accidents as 18 year-olds.”
In the U.S. News opinion piece, A Lower Age Would Be Unsafe, Laura Dean-Mooney states, “Lowering the drinking age would have dangerous long-term consequences: early teen drinkers are not only more susceptible to alcoholism but to developing the disease earlier and more quickly than others” (Dean-Mooney n.pag.). Despite this, getting rid of, or at least decreasing the lure of the forbiddenness of alcohol and bringing the consumption
Deaths go up when the drinking age is lowered, and they godown when it is raised.” But it can barely reduce the population of the drinking people and underage drinking. According to the historical data, in United States, there had a prohibition of alcohol before in 1920. The reason of this prohibition is that alcohol is the root cause of crime. Although alcohol is illegal trafficking, but still easy to buy in the underground bars and other underground organizations. It also cause a lot of social Issues. So we can see the prohibition can not even prohibit people getting alcohol. The MLDA 21 just can be a guide since people who underage still can drink. More education is needed for teenager. They should be taught more knowledge and hazard of alcohol. Also reduce the legal drinking age to 18, which require they take their responsibility as an adult. This is the only way to reduce the precentage of drinking people and also in order to reduce alcohol-related traffic
With more of our population drinking alcohol, communities would become less safe overall. Alcohol would be prevalent in high schools, high schoolers would be prevalent in bars, and the natural balance of our society would be upset. It would also raise concerns for children as young as 14 who could get access to alcohol and potentially develop alcoholism or start using illegal drugs from this early exposure to alcohol.(2) Though some counter argue that this would not be a problem and point to Europe’s low drinking ages as evidence, our society in the US is so different from that of Europe that it is not really a fair comparison to make. Overall, “proponents of the higher drinking age says it reduces traffic fatalities and alcohol-related accidents while keeping booze out of the hands of teens, whose brains are still developing.”(1) These are fair and good reasons to not lower the MLDA; it seems clear that the negatives that would come with a drinking age of 18 greatly outweigh the perceived benefits of this
Exposure to alcohol advertising is an everyday occurrence. Alcohol advertising is persuasive not only to adults but to those who are too young to buy alcohol legally. Although parents and peers have a large impact on youth decisions to drink, marketing also has a significant impact by influencing the attitudes of parents and peers and helping to create an environment that promotes underage drinking. Alcohol companies focus billions of dollars on advertising their products and still claim that the effect is minimal. I pose a few questions that are; who are the targets of alcohol advertising? How does alcohol advertising affect the people targeted by alcohol companies? Finally what actions are being taken to
While people want to lower the drinking age, they are right not doing so because this could cause more car accidents. In an article titled Study: Lowering The Drinking Age Increases Car Crashes Among Youth by Join Together Staff, the author states “Several studies in the United States have shown significant reductions in alcohol-related traffic crashes since the Uniform Drinking
Anyone who is below eighteen years of age is considered as underage and laws in many countries prohibit such a person from consuming alcohol. Alcohol happens to be the most commonly abused drug not only among the youth but also among adults. This paper explores underage drinking, its effects on the society and outlines what can be done to curb it.
(CT-1) above alcohol article said about how alcohol made up of and it’s effect. How people become addict with it. Why people using alcohol and how it affects our community. (CT-2) In my opinion I believe the authors of the article were saying that due to the misuse of alcohol teenagers, high school student and college students were dying a lots due to car accident. Author try to said that if reader is alcohol abuse than they should their habits and try to help people who have alcohol abuse common problems. Again, author try to say people do not make children alcoholic because if parents or relative are alcoholic or alcohol abuse automatically children will become alcoholic. (CT-3) before reading this article on alcohol I used to think alcohol is bad to health and person who are alcoholic they are too bad people. I will never test this alcohol. (CT-4) after reading this article than also my reaction was same to alcoholic people but I will try to help them in their reason to become alcoholic because some people used alcohol to become tension free. (CT-5) in my opinion I made conclusions that people who used and abuse alcohol please do not make your friends and family as like you and be careful and anything happen by reason and it have both negative and positive reason. (QL-1) in General graph tells me about which age group people are more alcoholic and how many of them are not currently using, how much

Annually, about 5,000 people under age 21 die from alcohol-related injuries involving underage drinking.( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013).” This quote means underage drinking alcohol is the major cause of death and injuries for teenager who is under age 21. There were about 5,000 people under age 21 died in the accident that associated with alcohol every year. In the quote, it shows the disadvantage of underage drinking, which could cause the death and injuries of
