Alcoholism is a major social issue around the world today. The ProQuest Staff of SIRS Researcher defines alcoholism as excessive use of alcohol that eventually results in dependence, or addiction where the body craves a drug. There are roughly 140 million alcoholics currently in the world, which results in higher rates of crime, abuse, illness, car crashes, and lower productivity in work (ProQuest Staff). According to Dr. Mark Willenbring, most
The drinking age should be lowered to eighteen because there has been many problems that have caused life threatening dangers to these teens. The age eighteen is where you start to become an adult so people should have the right to drink when they turn eighteen (“Drinking Age”). It also should be allowed
Drinking causes untold damage to our society, it hurts people, it hurts families, and it takes loved ones away from us. Alcohol attribute
Eliminaiting the drinking age will also help prevent less people from becoming alcoholics. Even though this fact can be hard to comprehend it is a true and proven fact. There are many different reasons why a person drinks, such as depression caused by the death of a loved one, to forget bad memories, to" fit in"socially and to follow their role
Do you think young ones should drink alcohol? Mostly the percentage the people drinking in America. Can we stop young people from drinking? Yes, because it’s illegal for young age to drink. This topic isn’t everyone agreed of. The enactment of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 prompted states to raise their legal age. Purchase or public possession of alcohol to 21 or risk losing millions in federal highway funds (GPO Access). We should stay the high age to drink because it lower MLDA 21 not responsible on medical, reduce the number of underage, and lower the program age of 21 to 18 cause irresponsibility to let in great more crimes.
In my opinion it should be decreased because if we are classified as an adult and we are allowed to get married and etc. Why are we not allowed to drink. Lowering the drinking age would teach kids how to be more responsible at a younger age. If kids are just cut off from things, they are just going to find a way around it anyway. Kids just need to learn to do things in moderation. Because unfortunate, adults aren't responsible with alcohol either. Maybe if they were not taught that drinking was a "rebel" thing at a young age we wouldn't have so many alcoholics or so many kids over doing it at parties.
Smoking, on the other hand. I think that the age of smoking needs adjusts. You have to be 18 to smoke. That is too young. So look at it this way, you are allowed to drink at 21 that should be the age that you can smoke, too. When you start to smoke at a certain age that can affect you in the long run. Smoking takes a 30% fault to cancer deaths, and smoking takes responsibility for 87% lung cancer deaths. If you would move the age to 21, it could possibly save thousands of
Alcohol has been around for years. There has even been a point in time when it was safer than water. As time passed the drink evolved and so did the problems that followed. Addiction, severe health problems, violence, rage, crimes, and even death have been the outcomes to those who fall victim to the beverage. Although the simple solution would be to just ban alcohol all together, I believe adding a system that puts a regulation that can help limit the negatives things caused by it.
“Alcohol is the oldest and most widely used drug in the world” (Albert S. Whiting, M.D). The question is whether alcohol should be allowed for everyone or at a certain age. In 1984, Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, which required states to raise their ages for purchase and public possession to twenty one. Twenty one is the established drinking age where the government feels a person is able to handle alcohol. As a result, teenage drinking has become a major issue here in the United States. People under the age of twenty one have been illegally drinking alcohol on a regular basis without even knowing the consequences that come along with it.. Underage drinking is considered people who are under the age of twenty one who
The alcoholic drinking age should be lowered to age eighteen based on the fact that our current prohibition laws are not working. Our nation has tried prohibition twice in the past for controlling irresponsible drinking problems. These laws were finally repealed because our nation was not able to enforce them and because the reaction towards them caused other social problems. Today we are repeating history and making the same mistakes that occurred in the past. Prohibition did not work then and prohibition for young people under the age of 21 is certainly not working
Another reason I am against this amendment is ERwise. A lot of people have been getting sent to the ER because they have drank too much. Some people have even died because they drank too much. I don’t think that alcohol should be allowed. And I will stick with my reasoning for this to. People haven’t even been caught for getting to drunk unless they are at parties. Parties are usually the main reasoning for ER trips when they are drinking.
Almost everyone can agree that alcohol should not be given or allowed to children or young adults under a certain age. Alcohol is a substance that is very dangerous and if you used incorrectly or immaturely the consequences can be great danger to the users or the ones around them. The topic of lowering the drinking age has been in discussion for many decades. “Between 1970 and 1976, 29 states lowered their age for drinking alcohol. The results were catastrophic. Highway deaths among teenagers and young adults skyrocketed. Almost immediately, states began raising the minimum drinking age again.” “In 1984, Congress passed the Uniform Drinking Age Act, which required states to have a minimum drinking age of 21 for all types of alcohol
My opposition to the alcohol restriction until age 21 is based in that the liberty and restriction of an adult should be the same for all ages. If an adult has the capacity to vote and decide what is best for the future of the country at age 18, the ability to drink should be granted as well. In contrary, if a person has to wait until the age of 21 to drink, the same restriction should be included for smoking,
In this day and age, when it comes to alcohol consumption and laws of alcohol use in countries around the world, many people debate about whether the legal drinking age should be raised, lowered, or stay the same. What about a society where alcohol would be illegal?? Well, when it comes to the sheer number of deaths that occur from drunk driving alone, you’d end up agreeing with it. To add to this, addiction is always a risk to be taken into consideration, because it leads to alcohol poisoning, eventually causing death. All in all, alcohol is something that is just as addictive as any other drug, and should it be treated as an illegal drug as well. The following are just some of the many reasons why this should be so.
When people think about alcohol, they think about a strong colorless volatile flammable liquid that is the intoxicating constituent of wine, beer, spirits, and other drinks. I strongly oppose the use of this beverage because this can be a very dangerous beverage to teenagers and adults. Alcohol has caused a lot of problems in the economy, and if people continue to misuse alcohol the number of deaths from alcohol will increase instead of decreasing. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics in 2011, the amount of 9,878 people died in drunk driving crashes, one every 53 minutes. Alcohol should be banned because alcohol is a really dangerous beverage which has brought a lot of sorrow and tragic stories
