Alexander the Great: Alexander the great, The King of Macedon With this paper, I will show the life events of Alexander the great. He was king at the age of 19 and then died of a fever at the age of 33. At the time of death, he was thinking of conquering Carthage and Rome. Throughout his life people adored and hated him. The conquered societies viewed him as a tyrant and the Macedonians viewed him as a hero. Alexander the Great succeeded in forging the largest Western empire of the ancient world. Early Life Alexander was born in 356 B.C. to King Philip II of Macedon and Queen Olympia. Alexander grew up at the royal court in Pella. Alexander was barely Macedonian but, had the life style and temper of one. As a child, he watched his father transform Macedonia into a military power, winning battles throughout the Balkans. At the age of 12, Alexander had shown his father and all who were watching how he tamed an untamable horse. This horse would not let anyone ride or handle him. When he was 13, King Philip hired the Greek philosopher Aristotle to be Alexander’s personal tutor. During the next three years Aristotle gave Alexander lessons in science, medicine, and philosophy, all of which became important in Alexander’s later life. At 16, King Philip left him to rule Macedonia while he went to battle the Thracian bordering north-eastern Macedonia.
