Alexei Fyodorovich Karamazov I took sometime over the last couple of days to contemplate the question posed and that question was; which of the brothers did we most relate to? This was a difficult process for me because when thinking back over my life in parts, each part would reflect a different brother. After some extensive thought I chose Alexei because in my current state of life our experiences are very similar and in our early years we have a similar incident that took place. Even though they are not identical I will attempt to draw a parallel between the two. I will start by looking at the childhood of Alexei when his mother was still living. There is a scene that takes place after his mom becomes sick with her hysterical fits, but I do not want to focus on her sickness and instead her tremendous faith. The stories goes that she was on her knees, holding Alexei tight and pleading with Mary, the Mother of God, to care for him (Dostoevsky, 19.) This is where I would like to draw a parallel to my own life because I believe that there can be a hazy reflection of one on the other. I wandered as a lost sheep, off and on for about 10 years. But where Alexei and my path will meet us again is when Alexei has an epiphany, leaves school and goes to talk to his father (Dostoevsky, 21.) I also left school early, but high school, but for a different reason. My reason was to work hard and climb the corporate latter. But years later I also had the same type of epiphany and after 18 years of working decided to apply and enter seminary.
