I am Alexis Weaver, a college freshman pursuing my dream of becoming a teacher by obtaining my college degree.I have previously attended Mideast Career and Technology Center in the Early Childhood Education program. I have been selected as a teaching assistant at Mid East to experience hands on education along with my college classes to help me obtain my teaching degree. My grandma, which I call Nana, is my legacy figure and she is also a retired teacher. I feel honored to be following in her foot steps and hope to one day inspire the students as she did throughout her career . My Nana has a way about her that I have also witnessed in other teachers throughout my years and it is something beyond what you are taught in school. It is a manner
Why do we still get scared if we know deep down that the things that are scaring us are fake? In the article “Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear” by Allegra Ringo, …, and even one of my own experiences, we find out how our imagination interferes with our reality to give us more of a fight. Much of being scared comes from past experience, where you are, or even the sounds you hear.
Chapter eight is about promoting communication and language development in early childhood education. Early communication is mostly non-verbal. Communication goes beyond the words we use; it develops with the use of gestures, facial expressions, hand movements and positioning of our body. Some of the first displays of communication by infants include, smiling, fussing and looking at an area, person or object. Later, communication extends to give signals such as pointing, reaching and body movements to indicate a want or need. The primary functions of early communication are behavior regulation, social interaction, and calling joint attention. Students with visual impairment and other disabilities are at risk for developing communication and
Inspirational pioneers of early childhood who discuss relationships and play include Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner. Tina Bruce explores the pedagogical tools of play and relationships within her 2nd edition of ‘Ten Principles of Early Childhood Education’ also.
Chapter two discusses various theorists that helped to mold and shape early childhood education to where it is today. There are several different theorists that contributed to the development of early childhood education. Some of these theorists include Alfred Adler, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and John Dewey. Each theorist developed a unique theory that has caused early childhood guidance and education to flourish like it has today. Without learning and building on these theories, early childhood guidance and education would never develop or change. The chapter explains how some theories may seem strange to the contemporary families, but these theories are the foundation of how early childhood education got to where it is today. The book goes
I am a student at Florida Atlantic University studying early childhood education. I am enrolled in EEC 3214 class this semester; the class is called designing and implementing a blending curriculum: birth to age eight. I am required to complete a field experience assignment at a preschool. I will observe young children ranging from three to five years old. I assure you that I will keep all information confidential. In addition, I reassure you that I will not share the information collected outside of my course and that no identifying information will be shared. I will respect and follow all the school’s policies and procedures in a professional manner.
For this assignment, I observed a child between the ages of 6 months to 15 years old for a minimum of 3 hours and then write a paper that discusses my observation that relates to the subjects discussed in class. I observed a child named Mateo Ruie and he was 8 years old. The dates I observed Mateo was November 11, 2015 for 1 hour and 30 minutes and November 18, 2015 for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The location was at the College Church of the Nazarene during the children’s ministry called Caravan. This children’s ministry is every Wednesday at 6:30PM to 8:15PM. During Caravan, all the children come together sing, dance, hear a message from Mrs. Sherry, and then they break into different grades for small group time. When Mrs. Sherry speaks the setting is in the college church’s gym area and this is where kids run around and take their energy out. The next setting is in a small classroom where kids have time to talk to the group leader and ask questions about God.

Education has come a extensive way from the times of Plato and Aristotle, but from each new era came a person with a concept that effected the world of education eternally. Sisters, Margaret and Rachel McMillian influenced education through their development of the Open-Air Nursery School in more way then one. Not only had they introduced the idea of starting education at a younger age then the fledgling kindergarten program, but their school was devised for kids from low- income areas that needed the extra care as well. A unique concept of the time that grasped my interest and made me want to discover more about their program and it’s effect on Early Childhood Education.
Early education for children is very crucial as it helps shape up the foundation of their knowledge and behavior development process. Children begin to develop the sense of curiosity from the age of two. And from age 2-8, children go through a very crucial period of mental development, which shapes up their future mindset (Grayson, 2016).
