Why I Am An Algonquin Tribe Leader

During the 19th century, the Shawnee tribe was removed by the U.S. Government to what is now the state of Kansas. The group which became known as the Absentee Shawnee Tribe absented itself from the reservation in Kansas in 1845 (thus their name), and traveled southwards to Texas.

But the American Indians have been located throughout the states from the very beginning and are still thriving, in some cases. One of the activities that the Shawnee tribe does is trapping animals, the men of the tribe complete this activity. They do this because they rely on the environment around them to survive, they trap to get food for the tribe. The women oversee making clothing out of the trapped animals fur, the type of clothing the women make depends on the season. The men would wear deerskin loincloth, the women would wear a skin apron in the summer. They also make moccasins out of the animal’s fur and decorate them with bead and feathers. During the winter they would make heavier clothing items to keep warm.

The navajo tribe are also called the dine tribe. Who had lived in the southern dezert area like Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. The navajo indians were semi-nominate and were called hunter-gathers. The men were in charge of getting food and keeping the camp safe from predators,and the women were in charge of the homes and land. The navajo indians had kelp sheep and goats around and had used there wool for clothes. The navajo tribe is related to the athabascan people by central canada. They had traveled to the southwest before the europeans had showed up. There tribe had consisted of medicine men and shamen.

The Navajo Native Americans experienced multiple struggles throughout their tribe’s history, mostly surrounding the problems to do with the United States military and the Spaniards pushing them from their territory. Although this was the fate of multiple tribes of Native Americans, the Navajo struggled intensely to leave their homeland. The Navajo were a beautiful tribe with multiple hardships. The Navajo tribe was formed sometime around the 1500s, and developed to become the largest Native American tribe. The word Navajo comes from “Tewa Navahu”, translating to mean “highly cultivated lands” loosely.

People are climbing on the Lakota tribe’s sacred tower. Devils Tower is in the Black Hills in Wyoming and is the first National Monument in the U.S. (Leonard). It rises 1,267 feet above the surrounding and is 5,114 feet above sea level (Devils Tower National Monument). Despite its significance to the Native Americans, particularly the Lakota tribe, many people visit this National Monument. Some visitors also climb the Tower. The Lakota tribe members have been living in the Black Hills for many years and perform many ceremonies at the Tower. Like many sacred places in Native American tribes, they have a myth about how the Tower came to be. According to James LaPointe, three girls wandered off while they were marching along the Black Hills to gather fruits. In a far far away land there where we're two tribe, one of the tribe we're call the ojibwe. The other tribe was call the mohawk. The two tribe had a leader with great power these leaders are Chief John Redcorn from the ojibwe, and Grand Cherokee from the Mohawks. These two guys were the strongest smartest fastest and more intelligent guys of their tribes. John and his tribe believe in Christianity. They strong we believe that Jesus will return an saved them from the evil spirits of the wilderness.

The main fighters of the French and Indian War were Great Britain and France. The Native Americans were in allegiance with France. They fought with the French because they felt that if the British won they would try to the take their land from them. Tensions were high between France and Great Britain, because of the Seven years’ war that was being fought at the exact time in Europe between the two countries. France and Great Britain were fighting for control over the territories of North America. In the beginning they were peaceful and civil to one another, then land encroachments started on both sides. This was one cause for the declaration of War.

My research paper is about the fierce Navajo Indians. The Navajos were a very intense group of Native Americans and were greatly feared by a lot of the surrounding tribes. They were one of last known group of Native Americans to arrive Southwest. The warriors got most of their livestock and horses from stealing them from the surrounding tribes and settlers. According to Mele and Magliocca authors of The Navajos “The Navajo Indians migrated from Canada in 1000 A.D and migrated to the four corners of New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona.” The Navajos lived on a reservation that was 14,000 square miles. I am Chief Adsila of the Huron Indians. The European powers that are at war need warriors. We must take part in this great war, and I believe that during the war we should side with the French. We trade with the French very often. In addition to this, we know and trust the French because we trade with them often, therefore interacting with them frequently. Also, the French trade fairly and also have many Native American allies because of this. Additionally, we have had many arguments with the English over land, but the French have respected us. We trust the French and should take their side during the war.

The Wampanoag people lived in a region in what is now Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Their language was Algonquian. Wampanoags were semi nomads they moved seasonally, but eventually returned to the same fixed locations. The tribe itself was made up of different villages with a local chief in place. The Indians grew corn for their primary source of food, but also fished and hunted game. Relations with the English settlers were tense at times. In 1620 during Massasoit’s reign as chief, he signed a treaty for peace with the neighboring settlers who had encroached on Wampanoag land, the pilgrims.
