Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are both well known for their poems and writings. Both women were known as authors, poets, and activists. These women both have a great similarity even though there is a big difference in their ages. They are known for their motivating words that have inspired not only African Americans but other races as well. These women both have a great similarity even though there is a big difference in their ages. They both have many similarities when you compare their writings and past experiences.

Maya Angelou, whose real name was Marguerite Johnson, was born in St. Louis, Missouri but grew up both in St. Louis and Arkansas. She talked about growing up in South in many of her writings but is best known for her autobiographical books she has written. Mom & Me & Mom (Random House, 2013), Letter to My Daughter (Random House, 2008), and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Random House, 1969) are some of these autobiographical books …show more content…

She was born in Eatonton Georgia and was raised by sharecroppers. She too wrote about growing up in the South and is known as one the most cherished African American writers of today. Walker has written multiple books, essays, and poems. To name a few of her works are The Third Life of Grange Copeland (1970), Meridian (1976), and In Love and Trouble: Stories of Black Women (1973) (www.georgiaencyclopedia.org) . Her stories helped many women overcome their troubles because her writings were uplifting and she spoke about truth just like Angelou. One of Walker’s most famous works is The Color Purple (1982). In fact it was such a popular novel that it later became a major film.
