Support For Alien Life Search “Alone” Is defined as “separate, apart, or isolated from others” (“Alone”). Individuals can be alone, but the Earth is a little less clear. Whether the Earth is alone in having the ability to sustain life or if there is more out there in the vast darkness of space is a huge mystery. The possibility of life beyond the green planet is highly debated. The debate is held within scientific communities as well as the public. However mathematically, existence on Earth being the only source of life in the universe is incredibly slim. Organizations such as SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) use math to try to figure out the amount of potential life in the universe with the Drake Equation (Drake).

Scientists have been baffled by the existence of life on Earth where conditions have been thought to be uninhabitable. The existence of these extremophile species, organisms living in conditions thought to be unable to sustain life, on earth gives a boost to the possibility of outside life. Science also does not have a full grasp on exactly what conditions are necessary to cause life to bloom (McAlpine). Just because life is thought to only be able to thrive in certain conditions on Earth, does not mean extraterrestrial life is bound by the same rules, especially if terrestrial species are known to occasionally break the rules. Discovery of life existing away from planet Earth that does not meet the preceded notions of what life must be like would lead scientists to better understand how life functions and performs under countless situations and conditions. Space itself supports this as “we’ve discovered things such as oceans in places we thought they couldn’t exist” (Drake). Oceans on earth are home to millions of species and are hubs for aforementioned extremophile species, most of which remain unknown to modern science. Since oceans on Earth are teeming with mysterious undiscovered life, there is no telling what awaits at the bottom of deep space oceans. If scientists can understand how species may be able to thrive in previously thought to be unlivable conditions, scientists can use those discoveries to help humanity explore areas that would otherwise be perilous. Throughout history humanity has been fascinated by the existence of extraterrestrial life. Today such ventures are in the development process and the discovery of life beyond our solar system, no matter how primitive, may soon become a huge(important?) scientific breakthrough. The three basic things that are required to consider a place even remotely habitable are water, a source of energy, and organic materials. Habitability also depends on other factors that must also be taken into consideration such as how close the planet is to its star (in the case of our solar system, the sun), how long the water and organic materials existed there, and the size and mass of the planet. Aliens and life beyond earth has been a mystery for a long time. Many people and scientist have been looking for life outside of Earth, or just floating in the sky trying to get video of it. For all of human history we have been looking for extraterrestrial life, and these are the major events of finding, debunking, and moving forward to life on earth
People who think we should explore space more than the ocean might say that with new technology, we are just beginning to discover things outside of our solar system. Well I think that there are so many things on our own planet that we have yet to discover. The ocean is a perfect example of that. In 2010 scientist Santiago Herrera embarked on an expedition in the water near Indonesia to determine areas worth returning for research. "Scientists saw far more than they expected...on this expedition, Herrera says, 'we were never bored because we were constantly seeing amazing species. We suspect this is one of the areas of highest biodiversity on Earth." (page 208) Many people believe that with more expeditions in space, life on other planets or habitable planets will be discovered. I believe there are many, many new species yet to be discovered, especially in the ocean. "To date, scientists have identified more than 1,300 species in deep-sea chemosynthetic habitats. These organisms have introduced us to completely new ways of life and expanded our view of how adaptable life can be." (208) Scientist Craig Smith who is a professor at the University of Hawaii believes that scientists will continue to find new life in surprising locations. Stephan Ornes’ article Life Beyond Earth is about the satellite dishes that are located in northern California to try and locate aliens by sound. The dishes pick up sound from the sky that are not usual sounds. Scientists are trying to find different way of finding extraterrestrial life through biology, anatomy, psychology and computer science. Europa is a moon of Jupiter in which scientists find it as a candidate that may have life form. Scientists believe that there is a slushy ocean beneath the frozen solid surface. They have no immediate thought of sending spacecraft
IF we get involved in the exploration of space and the ocean, then when we discover big things then we could proudly tell the world we discovered something big. Let’s say we discovered something big, well then, we would like to explore it more. Like a wrecked ship, if we want to explore it maybe it will have something good then we can explore. But we would have to be careful so no one gets hurt. If we find something big on the river or in space it could mean new things and more discovery.
Exobiology is the science that is concerned with the search for life in outer space; it may be called as astrobiology as well. The search for life in outer space has consumed the imagination of the humankind for long time ago. Nowadays, humankind has made a progress and found major discoveries in the quest for life existence in the universe and outer space because of the advancement of the technology. However, in the past, exobiology was considered as a science without a subject, where the people and other scientists laughed at and ridiculed the famous scientist and biologist Joshua Lederberg when he originated the term exobiology. Some people argue that life exists elsewhere in the universe, however, others believe that life only exist on Earth. A new study reveals that our galaxy, the Milky Way, has 100 billion or so stars, where 17 billion of them are Earth-size alien planets, and probably many more. The huge size of the galaxy increases the probability of life existence in the outer space. Are we alone in the universe? This question has captured the imaginations of scientist, theologians, and astrobiologists. However, they don’t know the answer yet. Understanding the complete definition of life and how life originated, and determining the techniques used for searching for life existence in outer space and evidences found can help to answer the question of “Are we alone in the universe?”
As a member that is part of the UC’s Lick Observatory “Planet Hunter Team, I have found a possible planetary system that may contain a planet. From my further research, I discovered that the planet may support life, such as bacteria and plants. After confirming with the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute about intelligent life, I eventually decided to want to discuss intelligent life through a scientific process. I will use the Drake Equation to give us the possibility that intelligent life can emit signals to reveal any existence. The equation is given as N= R* x fp x ne x fl x fi x fc x L. The calculations of each variables will help me understand what is being contributed into calculating the chance of any signals being detected and the calculated result will determined the conclusion of intelligent life existing. Nevertheless, this is just an estimation for the possibility of any life as the Drake Equation may or may not be as reliable as we may expect it to be.
Devin Lally Dr. Aaron Titus FYS 1100 Final Essay: Drake Equation The Drake Equation is a theorized equation used to estimate the number of intelligent, radio-communicative life in the Milky Way galaxy. The Drake Equation was written in 1961 by Frank Drake soon before he was going to attend and present at the “search for extraterrestrial intelligence” meeting or SETI. Drake pointed an 85 foot telescope1 at nearby stars and hoped for a response (Scoles).
Abstract: Scientists claim that other life forms do in fact exist based on probability. The conditions necessary for life are likely to be present on various other planets. Signs of possible life have been found in material from outer space. Much research has been dedicated to proving the existence of life on Mars. SETI is a program entirely dedicated to finding and establishing communication with extra terrestrials. If other life forms are found, communication with these beings will be a difficult task. Laws to protect humans from the dangers of extraterrestrial beings are already in effect. Although contact with alien beings has not yet been made, technology today may make it a reality in the near future.
In the article “Mission to Mars” Roy (one of the astronauts who went to Mars) says he might have seen and alien life form. In the article “Mission to Mars” the astronauts talk about exploring to see if they can find the alien-life form or remnants. Mission control is a bit surprised by what Roy said because alien-life forms on Mars is unlikely, but they could still find remnants of alien-life forms from long ago. For example, astronauts could explore Mars and decide to dig into Mars, then they find a piece of bone or some other interesting remnant of alien-life. The title of my paper is called, “Life on Another Planet.” The purpose of my essay is to explore the question of do aliens exist? I explained the possibilities that there could be other life out there in space. Countless people have dreamt of Interstellar travel and I, David Brown, stand before the launch site prepared to board my ship and travel to a new planet. I’m part of a team that is meant to survey this “New World” and prepare it for colonization. Unfortunately, we’ve been forced to abandon our home. Earth has become far too polluted to sustain life much longer and our team is the first to inhabit this alien planet. Each team member has been permitted to bring three additional people and five personal belongings to ensure a successful mission.
With nearly 95% of Earth's oceans unexplored, many are wondering what exactly is hidden down in these dark depths. Seeing a majority of UFO sightings happen around the ocean, many think that is not a coincidence. Perhaps we are looking too far for signs of alien life. They might live right here on Earth and NASA knows about it.
We should not be looking for life elsewhere in the universe.One reason is that it is very exspensive to go or send something to space.Also, the things that we find might be hostile and may harm people.Also, another reason that we should not look for other forms of life is because they might have some crazy deisease that will kill off the population.Finally, is that what if we dont find any form of life then we would have just wasted a lot of money and time.In,conclusion that is only some of the reasons why we should not look for other lifeforms.
First reason is that we cannot observe extraterrestrial creatures now because of the limitation of current technology. Although some people think the technology developed in a high level, there are still a lot of unknown things to us because we cannot explain or prove them. With the improvement of the technology, people might find out extraterrestrial lives through modern equipment.
