A long time ago, in ancient time, there was a Goddess that went by the name of Alithea. Alithea was the goddess of the sea. She had the power to control water with her magical trident. The thing she loved most about being the goddess of the sea was that she got to protect all of the animals that lived within, especially from Cetus. Cetus was a rather large sea monster, that killed almost anything in its path. Not only did Cetus kill the animals, but a few years back, it killed Alithea’s younger brother, Adonis. After the incident, if Alithea even heard the name Cetus, she would fill with rage and anger. Ever since the day that Alithea’s brother died, she said if she ever got the chance, she would kill Cetus, to end all the madness once and …show more content…
Poseidon was like the golden child to Cronus and Rhea, their parents, and could never do any wrong. Alithea’s parents were always asking her why she wasn’t more like her brother, but trying to be better than or even similar to her brother was very challenging considering all of his accomplishments. Poseidon created all the creatures in the sea, is one of the main three Gods, and is one of the most feared gods because he can control when earthquakes happen and when volcanoes will erupt. Although Poseidon had done all this great stuff, she knew that one day she would live up to her parents expectations. She had a good feeling about it too, because she had a …show more content…
Today was the third day of her search for the sea creature, and just when she thought that she should give up and stop looking, she found Cetus, asleep, in a dark cave at the very bottom of the sea floor. At first, she freaked out a little inside and felt overwhelmed with terror, but as soon as she calmed herself down she remembered the plan and knew it was go time. The only thing Alithea had to defend herself was her trident and lots of courage, but she knew she could do
Both Athena and Poseidon are gods, and both are under the rule of Zeus, however they are very different in the way they have interactions with Odysseus. Athena, the gray-eyed goddess help Odysseus on his journey, and also helps Penelpoe and Telemachus with their personal struggles. Poseidon, on the other hand has a grudge against Odysseus for maiming his offspring, the Cyclops. When Odysseus revealed his real name to the Cyclops, the Cyclops called upon Poseidon to curse him and make his journey even harder. In a way, it is like Athena and Poseidon are battling against each others' will. Athena is trying to make sure Odysseus makes it home safe, while Poseidon is trying to make his homeward journey as difficult as possible.
Poseidon was the god of the seas. He was worshiped by seamen but also very feared for his power over the water. Poseidon was thought to be the second strongest god after Zeus.
Although Zeus is the greatest of the immortals and is able to control their actions, the other gods have distinct abilities that allow them to either help the Trojans or the Achaeans. Poseidon’s loyalty lies with the Achaeans; however, he decides to help out the Trojans by saving Aeneas. In my eyes, Poseidon is not a traitor and rather a responsible and compassionate immortal. Sometimes, moral obligations outweigh personal responsibilities. For example, as much as Zeus wants to save his son from his fated death, he does not allow for his personal desires to get in the way of his job of protecting the prophecy. Because the gods of Olympus are so involved in the war effort, the mortal warriors are aware of the intervention of the immortals at times. When paranormal and unexplainable activities occur on the battlefield, such as the disappearance of Aeneas, the warriors do not think much about it since they understand that the gods must have intervened. The personal connections many gods feel to the mortals results in their intervention in the Trojan
Poseidon was one of a god . He was a god of the ocean .He live under the water because he take care of the fish. He get mad when you kill a animal because he really care for the animal. One day while tending Poseidon’s hippocampi, the cyclops were approached by Aphrodite. She instructed them to give Poseidon the nectar and then tell him to seek her immediately, and they did, for they could not resist the soft voice and beauty of Aphrodite. Once given the nectar and instructions, Poseidon created a tsunami and rode it to Mount Olympus. Once Poseidon arrived he was immediately met by the vengeful goddess. Aphrodite whispered in Poseidon’s ear, “Take Eelos’ beauty and make it mine, for if you do, I will be yours.” The nectar coursing through him, making him very suggestive, Poseidon went away immediately and did as told. He dipped his trident in the blood of the slain serpent Python, then in the sea. Poseidon found Eelos and took him by wrist and led him down to the sea, where he stabbed Eelos with the laced trident. Eelos shrieked in agony as his beauty was being taken from him and he was becoming a sea serpent. The instant the deed was done, Poseidon broke free from Aphrodite’s charm and realized what he had done. He fled to Zeus, the watchful god, and told him of the treason
She rowed to Athens, throwing the last three large rocks into the whirlpools. She reached the coast with just fifteen minutes before the squid would have finished killing her. She was getting weaker and slower, but she needed to help her people. It was night now, and sure enough the Squid was at her side of Athens. She stood upon a rock as the Squid loomed closer.
Because of that, he sent Odysseus away from his family for twenty years. The only way he could get back to them was f he learned his lesson. (Homer Book One) At the end of his journey, he finally realized after all his struggles that he was not any better than the gods and that he is only a mere mortal with no powers. When Odysseus finally acknowledges that to Poseidon, he was allowed to go home and meet his wife Penelope and live happily. (Homer Book 16) Poseidon is a huge secondary character that shows the human value of loss and realization of a person’s insignificance in the world. Odysseus was like a child that believed they had more authority than his parents so Poseidon had to put him in his place.
Then from time to time, when he was in a corrupt mood, Poseidon would attack the ground floor with a trident and cause disruptive earthquakes, drownings, and shipwrecks. Poseidon was comparable to his brother Zeus in utilizing his power on women and in portraying masculinity. (Kleiner, 123) He had several love affairs and engendered various children. Poseidon on one occasion married a Nereid, Amphitrite, and formed Triton who was half-human and half-fish. He also impregnated the Gorgon Medusa to give birth to Chrysaor and Pegasus, the flying horse. The rape of Aethra by Poseidon stemmed in the delivery of Theseus; and he changed Caeneus into a man, at her request, after raping her. Another rape involved Amymone when she tried to escape from a satyr and Poseidon rescued her. Other descendants of Poseidon include: Eumolpus, the Giant Sinis, Polyphemus, Orion, King Amycus, Proteus, Agenor and Belus from Europa, Pelias, and the King of Egypt, Busiris. One of the most disreputable love encounters of Poseidon includes his sister, Demeter. Poseidon chased Demeter and to escape him she turned herself into a mare. In his lust for her, Poseidon changed himself into a horse and took her. Their encounter resulted in a horse offspring, Arion. It is thought that Poseidon and Demeter are a good match because they reign as the god and goddess of fertility. An additional notorious story of Poseidon consists of the rivalry
Athena also known as Minerva. Athena challenged Poseidon the god of the sea to decide who would rule the Athens’. Goddess of war, peace, compassion, courage, wisdom and patroness of arts and crafts. She gave them the olive tree. She is part of Greek Mythology.Zeus swallowed his wife Metis out of fear. Metis gave birth to Athena after she was swallowed. Zeus not knowing started getting headaches. Zeus went to Hephaestus and asked him to cut his head open. Demeter, and Hestia were her aunts, Hades her uncle, Zeus was her dad, Metis was her mom, Hera was her stepmother/aunt, Apollo and Hermes were her half-brothers, and Artemis is her half-sister, Poseidon was her uncle.A myth Athena is involved in is that she challenged Poseidon for dominance
A very big part of Poseidon being a god is the myths. As told in Greek mythology, “Athena’s becoming the protector of Athens. Poseidon, too, wanted the city, to show how great a benefactor he could be, he struck open the rock of Acropolis with his trident so that water leaped forth from the cleft and subsided into a deep well” (Hamilton 395). Athena then grew an olive tree, the most prized of all the tree is of Greece, and became the protector of Athens. Poseidon was angered and sent a disastrous flood to punish the people (Hamilton 396). This myth portrays the kind of power Poseidon possesses. Also, “The god helped build the walls of the cit Troy, but when King Laomedon refused the payment he had promised, Poseidon sent a sea- monster to ravage the land” (Atsma). Poseidon is an exceptionally powerful god and both of these myths express that power.
Poseidon is often depicted as a mature man with a wreath of celery leaves, his trident, and a billowing cloak. Sea creatures, horses, and Cretan bulls are also sacred animals of Poseidon (theoi.com). As he was the God of the sea he was associated with anything do to with the sea, especially sea creatures like the seahorse. He was also associated deeply with horses as he was the one to give humans horses. “When he was in a good mood, Poseidon created new lands in the water and a calm sea. In contrast, when he was in a bad mood, Poseidon would strike the ground with a trident and cause unruly springs and earthquakes, shipwrecks, and drownings.”(Pantheon.org) Because of his temperament people were eager to please him and were very careful about staying in his
Poseidon is the ancient Greek god who resembles the power of the untamed, the brutal, and the wild. After the defeat of the Titans, Poseidon drew straws with his brothers and got the middle straw. Therefore, he became the lord of the Sea, earthquakes, and horses. The Romans knew Poseidon as Neptune. He is also associated with clouds, which was essential to agriculture. Poseidon could create springs, floods, and even tidal waves when angered. Besides the sea, Poseidon is also connected with the earth. It is believed that his anger is
Cetus is named for the sea monster of Greek mythology. Legend has it that vain
Gods and goddesses gather all over the world explaining the things that can’t be explained by man. Poseidon, an olympian god, is one of the many. He is the child of Kronus and Rhea and the brother of Zeus, Hades, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. He is known as the god of the sea, and the symbol that represented him was the trident. Since he was closely associated with fish and other marine creatures, he is depicted as wearing a headband made out of celery leaves. As well as riding a chariot lead by fish-tailed horses. But there is one thing that must be known about him, he takes his competitions seriously.
Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greek civilization had a god for everything that they could have thought of. One such god was Poseidon. Poseidon was the god of the sea and horses (Gil). Symbols that represented Poseidon included the trident and dolphin(Gil). He became one of the most well known of the gods because of his fierce temper and his adulterous ways. Poseidon was also part of many battles, such as the Trojan Wars. (Poseidon: Greek) He also caused many hardships for Odysseus as he returned home from the war.(Gall 49). Poseidon was a lustful (Gall 48) being who showed signs of violence and was also known to hold fierce grudges against those who wronged him (Poseidon).
