The Powerful Forces of Art in All Good Children The definition of art is “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.”(Oxford Dictionaries). Art comes in many forms and not all art is a painting or a drawing. Throughout the book, characters use art skillfully, art is for survival and is a tool to withstand or to escape the corrupt government. Additionally, art is a powerful force that communicates messages through a picture. Furthermore, what allows art to have a powerful impact is that art is expressive. People don't usually recognize how much skill it takes in Art. In All Good Children, people also use art to survive. Dallas uses his acting skills which allow him to blend in and live in New Middletown. He mimics the “Zombie” children from New Middletown to prevents himself from getting caught. He also uses his to blend in and trick people. Using his acting to his advantage. He uses his acting skills to gain trust from Mr.Graham. As Max describes, “Dallas straightens up, and takes my hands off his uniform, places them at my sides” (247). His acting allows him to act like the “zombie” children and soon uses this to take advantage of Mr. Graham and eventually “Slams his head into the bench” (252). His skill in acting allows him to move and get what he wants. Since humans express a lot of emotions, It takes skill to act like a zombie for weeks. Finally, art comes in a variety of forms. Acting is art, painting is art and makeup and beauty. A person that uses makeup and beauty is Celeste. She uses makeup to transform Dallas into Max’s “dad” so Max and his family can take Dallas.
