Allowed In School

Phones should not be allowed to be used at school because phones tend to distract not only the student that has the phone, but also the other student's and the teacher. When a person gets a text they want to answer it right then. When that student or person receives a text, it interrupts the whole class because for one, your going to want to answer it, and for the second reason the class looks at you and that causes a big distraction for everyone that was listening to the teacher and trying to learn. Another reason a phone is distraction is students tend to stay on social media and post crazy things and selfies and during class they want to take a picture of themselves and other student's to post and that distracts not only that person but their classmates around them.

Phones can be used for mobile learning and be cost effective for schools. 70% of schools that had cell phone bans in place five years ago are reversing their policy, because they see devices as a learning tool instead of a distraction. Educators are really seeing devices as a learning tool, not just something for entertainment. Even though some kids might abuse the policy of having phones, they can be put to good use. Smartphones allow you to access resources and material quickly before an exam. In some schools, students bring their own devices to save the school money, so they can buy stuff like pencils, printers, paper, and etc.

First of all, teachers can use it as a tool for teaching. Teacher allowing students to use their phones as a learning device could greatly improve the rate at which they learn. And teachers are starting to realize them as a resource. In an article written by John Giambalvo it states “One way I would immediately use phones as part of instruction would be to automate exit tickets” , this teacher is using the cell phones as a resource in teaching and surely many across the nation are also. There are many advantages for students to carry and use cell phones while in school. One of these benefits is keeping up with technology and providing educational benefits. Students can learn how to use tech type skills that are needed to download apps and create documents and presentations. At the same time, students can download apps that are good for learning. These apps could also be shared with other students in the class. The teacher of students would be able to record group discussions or lectures in class using programs like Skype or Remind 101. The phone could also be used as a tool to provide auditory learners with an educational aid. Last, the student could use the phone to help with organizing their assignments with the electronic calendar. According to a research study on the USA Today website, “Although schools have traditionally banned or limited cell phones in the classroom, 73% of Advanced Placement and National Writing Project teachers said their students use phones in the classroom or to complete assignments, according to a Pew Research Center study” (Higgins).

One reason that using cellphones in a classroom makes getting a college degree easier is because students are able to use their cellphones as storage devices to store their work. As a student at Vaughn I do believe that phones should be allowed but in a way they should not be allowed.Minority of all teens have cell phones.Cell Phones are usually used for emergencies etc.But now a days kids are using the electronic device for social media and to interact with friends,which leads to why I think cell phones should not be allowed.So Im going to be givng my opinin on reasons why cellphones should not be banned and reasons why they should be banned.

My first reason for having cell phones in class is that they provide quick and easy access to the internet. Students may be to shy to speak with each other so instead of talking they can text each other. With a phone more than two students can collaborate on projects. Projects are accomplished and students can easily communicate. Through this way students collaborate easily.

Secondly, it is no doubt that using mobile phones in campuses has many advantages. One reason is that using mobile phones in schools provide a new platform for education systems similarly as laptops, desktops and personal digital assistant (Rankin, 2008). Use mobile phones may help people to download power point slides, take notes, share ideas with others by Bluetooth and research questions on web side etc. Moreover mobile phones are used to check class schedules or take quizzes on the way to schools (Kharif 2008). The other reason is that students may have a good communication with their parents by using mobile phones during school time even for emergency situations. There is two third of parents contact their children during campus time, mainly to awoke them of medical appointments or other commitments. (Beattie, 2009) Consequently, students should be encouraged bring mobile phones to school.

Well most students have invested a great deal of time learning about a feature of a cell phone, more than holding a book. So when using a tool they know how to use, it's better than using a tool they can’t understand. Also, students can access tools such as the calculator and the calendar.

Cellphones can be used in a school type setting. They should be used researching the topic and getting other people's views on the subject. In school or not there are many great opinions on this subject and some are for it and some are against this subject. Having these devices can lead to new discoveries, communication, emergency uses, and for documentation for students to use to refer to homework assignments when studying.

The reason cell phones are bad. First it's distracting to the user. Next, the student or the user of the phone could cheat on tests. Also, the user needs money to keep the plan going to contact friends, or family. Another thing is that there could be sexual pictures sent out or received through a message. Lastly Social media could connect you with a sexual predator. Your child or family member could get seriously hurt or be in some big trouble if they have a cell phone.

The opportunity to have phones in class is great because they are a useful tool. They provide easy access research, learning games/apps, calculators, agenda, and etc. In case of an emergency, a student can reach out to grab their phone to call home or their parents/guardian. The emergency could be them forgetting to bring in something important, asking questions for their parents, and etc. Also, phones lets students to be organized with school work and to stay on task. For example, they can used for marking down any important reminders so they can get notifications, jot down notes for studying, and take pictures of documents in case they aren’t going to be in the next day. Another benefit that phones offers is to make students study more. Lastly, the phones can avoid double standards. Yes not all students think the same way, but some students do feel this way. Having to rights to use phones and teachers too everyone is satisfied, yet if only a teacher uses theirs then some students can start to get envy, and think that the school is not being fair with their rules. Once you hear the positive sides about phones in classrooms, you start to think it´s a bright idea.
