The novel Reached by Ally Condie was made to conclude the trilogy of the Matched series. This book’s telling is told through three of the main characters’ eyes: Xander Carrow, Ky Markham, and Cassia Reyes. Reached is a dystopian novel. As you all may know Society is seen as an ‘utopian’ world. They know “everything” for example: how long will you live, what you dream of, how you sleep, what you eat, etc. Citizens are under scrupulous supervision. Also the Officials (aka the oppressors) they MAKE ALL THE DECISIONS and you the citizen have no voice. This time around Cassia, Xander, and Ky are trying to escape this invasive love triangle. Cassia’s cannot truly decipher what her heart wants; should it be Xander or Ky? There are lots of conflicts
In Ellen Hopkins’ Identical, twins Kaeleigh and Raeanne bring dark secrets to light. After the girls’ daddy, Raymond Gardella - a comely city judge - causes a car accident involving them and their mother, the family begins to fall apart at the seams. The girls’ mother soon after turns frigid, showing little to no emotion towards their daddy, and she eventually leaves them all. The loss of their mother, and their daddy’s loss of his wife, sends all them all into a downward spiral, which is just the start of the family dilemmas. Despite the family’s desperate pleas to have her back, she still refuses, and soon takes up an interest in the city politics. While she is gone, the girls’ daddy does some repugnant things that should have him put in jail, but only Kaeleigh and Raeanne know – and they’re smart enough not to open their mouths about it, or daddy will make it worse.
Although this is only a part of a four part series, the story stays exciting and “on edge.” Sometimes you have to be brave and escape your comfort zone if you want to succeed at something, in this case that something was killing an evil soul sucker for Daisy. High school intertwined with psychics, magic, and even a wicked soul sucker. The plot only thickens with every page flip and the characters seem to grow bolder and bolder. One must learn to not trust everyone and to always be prepared for
"Our time together feels like a storm, like a wild wind and rain, like something too big to handle but too powerful to escape." (pg. 267) This quote is from an amazing Dystopian Young- Adult Fiction Novel, Matched by Ally Condie. The themes of this book are lies and deceit, courage, and choices. The main characters are Cassia Maria Reyes, Xander Thomas Carrow, Ky Markham, and Emily. The book is set in Oria Province in The Society.
1. Characters- The main characters are Cassia and Ky. Once in awhile a guy named Xander comes up in the story but not often.
I am reading Crossed by Ally Condie and I am on page 140. So far this book is about Cassia and Ky’s journey in the Carving to find each other. Cassia travels with a friend, Indie, from a farm that she worked at before they came to the outer provinces. Ky travels with a boy who reminds him of cassia’s brother, Eli, and a friend, Vick. As they travel, Cassia and Ky both believe they will find each other somehow against all odds.
Romiette and Julio The book that I have been reading is Romiette and Julio by Sharon Draper. In this book, the theme is love overcomes hate. Because this book is written in third person and is told through multiple points of view, the theme is easier to grasp. All of these characters and events take place in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Imagine being lost from your true love. You are separated, forced to escape and meet up in secret without the society knowing. This is the reality that Cassia and Ky had to face in the novel titled Crossed by Ally Condie. This companion book dives into the complex relationships between characters that show how hard it is to be in love. These relationships are captivating to the reader because Cassia is forced to choose who she really loves. Next you will discover what curiosity can really do to a person, it could be life or death. Also, the symbols of fish and rain come up through the story, connecting to the overall theme of the novel. To add on to, Ky will say goodbye to many people in his life. He will discover the heartbreak of death and separation. Finally, you will find a fan fiction piece that highlights a certain scene and its significance. Decide for yourself- would you really want to be separated from the one you really love?
Readers will chuckle with delight, weep, and have a feeling of warmth and happiness overall, while indulging in the sappy historical romance Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz. This novel shows the relationship and eventual marriage between Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler. They go through many challenges in life, both together and in the 50 years Eliza spent alone carrying on Alex’s legacy after he was shot and killed in a duel. The theme of this book is to keep fighting for the ones you love, and to stand with them in times of trouble. I personally enjoyed the look into the personal lives of the Hamiltons’, especially Eliza’s struggles and challenges. This book takes humor and sadness and twists it into a story that portrays yet
Ally Condie’s book, “Matched”, takes place in an unreal world, where society chooses a person’s true love and plans their life. The main character Cassia goes through many problems when society tries to chose her true life, because Cassia falls for someone else and not her true match. Cassia does many things to prove to society that society can not pick Cassias true love. One theme in the book is people should stand by their morals through the bad times.
“Crossed” by Ally Condie carries on explaining Cassia’s story. This time, Ally Condie expanded on her love life and the journey to the rising. She has also brought in Cassia’s Grandfather even though he is dead. In Crossed, Ally Condie added multiple points of view making you see more of the story. From this, it caused a more complex theme. Personally, I think the theme is, the story teaches us not only about love but, also about taking a risk when your gut or heart knows it is right. Additionally, the story is about individuality, relationships, and survival, and altogether it is about romance (such as the love triangle) and trusting your instincts (for instance in the story when Cassia is trying to find Ky and she goes where
The book I have chosen to read is Matched by Ally Condie. Matched is a dystopian fiction novel. The main characters in this book are Cassia Reyes, Xander, and Ky Markham. Cassia is a 17 year old girl who tells this story from her perspective as she tries to make the impossible choice between who she is told to be with and who she wants to be with. Xander is Cassia’s lifelong best friend who becomes her Match in the Match Banquet- the Banquet that depicts who Cassia is supposed to spend the rest of her life with. Ky, another boy who Cassia knows very well as a friend, unexpectedly becomes Cassia’s new love interest even though she is told by the society that she is only to be in love with Xander.
Trauma and tragedy are inevitably regular and pervasive outcomes in romantic literature. Our literary heritage is filled with heartbreak, failed relationships and broken individuals. Wuthering Heights and Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns both exhibit broken relationships, through a backdrop of conflict in swar torn Afghanistan and the restrictions of Victorian social hierarchy played out on the wild and windswept North York Moors- destroying these implied impervious bonds.
This isn't your sweet, he said/she said, they found true love. This is dirty, dark, twisted and full of partial hope. Don't expect a happy ending, but if you get it; you can thank me later.
“In the past, I’ve written about everlasting love, love after loss, first love, love as rescue, love and forgiveness, love and sacrifice and for The Guardian, I simply chose to write about love and danger. In other words, I wanted to write a story in which two believable characters fell in love, but I wanted to add elements of suspense that would ultimately put both characters in jeopardy.” (Sparks, 2)
The story began pleasant and straightforward. With Lara Jean, as the main character, being a hopeless romantic who write letters to her crushes but never sends them—rather, she places them in her special hatbox. However, things got out of hand when the letters were mailed out of nowhere without Lara knowledge. What’s worse is that one out of the five letters were about her older sister, Margot’s, ex-boyfriend, Josh.
