Sisterhood. Scholarship. Service. Self. Those are the four pillars of Alpha Delta Pi. The Panhellenic community all shares these foundational values and they are what make us different from all of the other campus organizations. They inspire women to lead with their daily actions and commitment to making their community a better place. One person who I know is dedicated to the betterment of herself, her sisterhood, and her community is Rachel Minter. Rachel follows Alpha Delta Pi’s open motto “We Live For Each Other.” While this is the open motto of our sorority Rachel takes it very seriously by embodying it in her everyday actions. She speaks passionately about it and when members complain about ritual, Rachel explains that it is a privilege to do something that has bound the women before us together for more than one hundred and fifty years. This past summer Rachel was chosen by our chapter to go to Leadership Seminar due to this passion for ritual. She came back and taught us all what she learned, she went phrase by phrase through our ritual and explained the importance. This year has been a struggle to get women to follow the correct steps in our rituals because they want to get everything done as quickly as possible even if some things are done wrong. Ultimately, they view our ritual as an obligation. Ritual is a privilege not a right; it is something that we all get to do. Rachel has said that to the chapter time and time again. One specific instance when I have seen her face adversity because she was holding on to her values is when one of the officers refused to set up the correct ritual paraphernalia. Rachel did not continue on with the ceremony, she knew what was missing and even though other members voiced their opposition to waiting for the right paraphernalia to be set up, Rachel continued to wait. And when that officer still refused to set up the correct paraphernalia, Rachel began setting it up herself, and soon enough the others began to help her. I realized at that point that Rachel was making sure that the ties that bind each and every member of our organization are just as strong and true in our chapter.
