Alternative Fueled vehicles as rental cars Lotus Car Rental (LCR) is on the move to making a very wise decision. LCR has successfully operated its business for a number of years. Today’s competition among Budget Car Rental, Avis, and Enterprise does not measure up to the services and advancement that LCR has displayed. With consumers making more advances toward environmentally friendly cars, alternative fuels for vehicles are a better choice. The assessment prepared for the Chief Financial Officer will display four primary components which will emphasize solid reasons for this decision to proceed. For example, corn ethanol needs to be blended with gasoline to work. Diesel fuel in the past cost less than gasoline. However, it now costs approximately the same or even more. Although diesel fuel is considered more efficient because it converts heat into energy rather than sending the heat out of the tailpipe as gas powered vehicle do, it does not result in high-speed performance. Diesel engines are like a work horse while gasoline engines are like race horses. Diesel engines require a lot of maintenance, if the engine is not serviced, the injectors will break down. Diesel maintenance can be expensive. In conclusion, vehicles that run on alternative fuels, as of 2010, are not yet common. If a biodiesel or electrically powered vehicle is desired, a careful search for a special model is necessary. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, (1) vehicles using ethanol need a special adaptor or need to be “flexible fuel vehicles,” which means they run on a combination of gasoline and ethanol. Availability of alternate fuel vehicles When considering the availability of alternative fuel vehicles, the type of fuel source must be decided. There are a variety of options such as, electric, ethanol, biodiesel, propane, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles.
