For the past four years I have been an active member of the GCAA Honor Society Club.
The most memorable experience as a student leader happened spring semester of 2016 around April. It was the week before her sororities annual 5k color run that supports Houston’s Ronald McDonald House. Alpha Delta Pi signed up to have a table available on
As I started Bloomfield College I have always been interest in joining a sorority. I went to many different interested meeting and none of them caught my attention like Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did. When I sat down and listen to their history and their goals it really made me change my mind and realize that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was the one. I am a proud Latina and to know that they were the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation made me more excited and enthusiastic on being part of the interested ladies. The main thing that captured my interest was to know that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. is a scholarly excellence sorority. As any person would think a sorority is about partying and having fun I believe this one focus more on their educational future and to achieve their goals.
These organizations have played pivotal rolls in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, met with presidents, open clinics and so many other phenomenal things in history. Once being initiated into these organizations you are responsible to carry on this legacy of providing service. But upon graduation it is not mandatory to stay active in the chapter. Graduation is quickly approaching for the seniors that are apart of Divine Nine and they now face the question “Do I remain active?”
Everyone knows about the stroll offs, roll calls, and step shows when an African American Greek sorority or fraternity is the topic. But is that all African American Greeks do is step and stroll? Believe it or not the image of African American Greeks has been tainted and miscued by their entertaining performances. Better known as the Divine Nine, the African American Greeks their hand signs and colors. The Divine Nine is a brotherhood and sisterhood organizations that are called to help the community and give back. These organizations also give women a chance to make a difference. After all, each and every one of the Dive Nine was founded because differences.
Besides CLHSSC, the NHS, which is validated at Commencement through cords, plays a large role in promoting volunteerism and civic duties throughout CLHS and the Chisago Lakes community. Every year, NHS hosts a Compassion Collection by which CLHS students bring in toiletry items during the holiday season. CLHSSC members work directly with NHS members to collect, sort, and donate the items to Family Pathways, the local food shelf. Also, at the state level, the Minnesota Association of Student Council (MASC) and the Minnesota Association of Honors Societies (MAHS) work directly with each other and host an annual State Convention. This Student Council and NHS conference acts as a catalyst to share ideas across the State of Minnesota. With that said, Student Council and NHS have a vested interest in one another. However, at the CLHS Commencement, only NHS member are recognized by the white cords while CLHSSC members are not recognized. Even though the CLHSSC arguably contributes more to the
The National Honor Society is for high school seniors who have “demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character”. At John Marshall we really push the “service” area. There are so many different reason I wanted to be a part of NHS; It gives me satisfaction that I was able to become a member of such an elite society, it also is very rewarding to give back to a community that has done so much for me. Each service project I have volunteered at has taught me something different. Since July, I have volunteered at eleven different projects (over 32 hours), and I have learned something new every time. When I volunteered at the Marshall County Family Resource Network’s gift packaging for teenagers at Cameron High and Middle, Moundsville Middle, Sherrard Middle and John Marshall High Schools, I didn’t realize there were so many of my peers in need of simple hygiene products. It inspired me to help and give back to them by donating to Paws for a Cause at John
When I transferred to Florida International University (FIU) in January 2015, I was invited to become a member of a national honor society
The National Honor Society is a group whose members are known for their academic accomplishments, leadership, and integrity. This group is greatly prestigious and I am honored to be invited to apply. This group also contributes a great deal towards the community, which is something that I am interested in doing more of. Until now, I have not gone out of my way to do much service and being in this group, I would have a higher motivation to do so. I would like to experience more giving to the community because whenever I have helped others, I felt satisfactory and valuable afterward. This society would be an excellent opportunity to be a bigger part of the community.
The sororities studied in the research are Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, and Zeta Phi Beta. All
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A

I wish to become a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated because I want to be a part of an organization of women who are not afraid to go the extra mile, positively impact the community, and stay true to who they are. As a teen I participated in “From Girls to Pearls”. During my time in the program I learned many life skills that served valuable to me in my adult life. One of the most memorable experiences for me is when the sorror’s of Gamma Zeta Zeta taught a workshop on how to eat in a professional setting. They taught the girls in the program which fork to use for the salad and which fork to use for the main course. My sophomore year in high school I did a junior internship at Vory’s and Sater a law firm in downtown Columbus. The Associates at the firm were very amazed that I knew how to carry myself in a
