In the novel, “Brave New World”, written by Aldous Huxley he introduces a utopian society where everyone is happy and has a blind eye on what the World State makes them believe. Imagine a society where there are imperfections, “Everyone is the same, Nobody is different”, you live a privileged life and are always happy. The cost is never possessing individuality and gambling where only the top classes enjoy such a lifestyle. Social stability guarantees perfection and everything being under control, where everyone is equal.

Jay MacLeod’s Ain’t No Makin It: Aspirations and Attainment in a Low-Income Neighborhood follows a group of boys from a low-income housing development called Clarendon Heights. MacLeod interviews the boys multiple times during their lifetime to understand if they remained in lower income areas with the same low aspirations. He follows two groups of boys called the Hallway Hangers due to always hanging around the school hallways and the Brothers. The predominantly white Hallway Hangers participate in a different subculture compared to the predominantly black Brothers. For the Hallway Hangers, their main purpose involves being bad. Their definition of bad involves drinking alcohol and consuming drugs on a regular basis. The Brothers remain active
Steve Almond’s story “You Knock my Brains out This Sunday and I Knock Your Brains out the Next Time we Meet” speaks to the underlying truth about America’s Sunday pastime and how concussions can be prevented not only by the industry, but by its viewers as well. Football is well known after having been brought to the public’s eye as study after study was released proving that there was a link from football to head injuries. Although in our modern society we have already subconsciously made the connection between football and concussions. The fact that this problem is not decreasing, could be surprising, as the lack of understanding about who has control and the ability to influence change. We hear that football helmets and pads, are getting better, but that does not stop concussions. We do not hear how helmets make players feel and change their play style based on the feeling of invincibility that people feel while wearing a helmet. Pads and helmets do help protect the players but false senses of security due to lack of knowledge on what
Advertising to teens is nothing new to marketers they have been doing it for so long and they know that teens can be easily influenced by their desires such as merchandise, fashion, and music and they are also the impressionable consumers of tomorrow.
In David Carr’s essay “Keep Your Thumbs Still When I’m Talking to You,” he explains what people nowadays normally do at social events and how it reflects on the people surrounding them. In the 21st century most people believe everything is about technology, every second there are new updates or more news feed to scroll down to and so many people are caught up on what other people are doing, rather than what is going on around them. Carr describes situations in which people are compulsively looking at their screen while they are out at a social event, which is something that is known to be fashionably rude. Carr’s argument is if society does not realize the respect they need to offer then, if in the 21st century people are going to social events to just stare at their phone screens all night, how will it be in the future?
A society that is perfect, where everything is equal and everyone is happy, where there’s
•This society is meant to be an illusion of a perfect utopian world where everyone is equal and everything is managed.
Imagine a life where everything is perfect. Sadly this is not possible. Many societies that were thought to be perfect, like The Maze Runner, Nazi Germany, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Greece figured this out the hard way. Societies fall due to corrupt leaders, lack of supplies, and a faulty security system.
The world is filled with many different types of societies and cultures. This is due to the fact that many people share dissimilar beliefs and ideas, as well as diverse ways of life. People lived under different circumstances and stipulations, therefore forming cultures and societies with ideas they formulated, themselves. These two factors, society and culture, are what motivate people to execute the things that they do. Many times, however, society and culture can cause downgrading effects to an assemblage if ever it is corrupt or prejudiced. Society and culture not only influences the emotions individuals have toward things like age differences, religion, power, and equality but also the actions they perform as a result.
Many are rich many are poor many have money many don’t. Have you ever had a moment where you did something selfish for desperation of money and karma hit you right back with a right hook?. And felt regret towards yourself. In the short story “Why, You Reckon” the author uses irony and dialogue, to show the audience that money can't buy happiness.
Our society is perfect, right? Some people may believe that we live in an ideal society and that life couldn’t get any better, but a majority think there could be improvements. Fictional societies such as the “Community” in Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver, fall under the category of dystopia, or a world where everything is bad or unpleasant. Within The Giver, the ideal society is one in which everything is regulated and controlled; such ideals created a monotone society that lacked emotion.
Too much to carry is a poem that describes Ky. His cousin got killed by an anomaly. Anomalies are people that are deadly. When Ky’s cousin died, he got adopted by his Uncle and Aunt. Officials would always watch him to see everything he did. He felt like he couldn’t do anything he wanted to. When he started hanging out with Cassia he felt different, he felt the urge to fight against society. It’s important to the the whole story because Ky and Cassia are starting to realize that they need to fight.
The people in our utopia are all in agreement that the time of a new society has come. People are sick of the modern corrupt society. This is because of the lack of acceptance for people and ethnicities. Modern society is judgemental and excludes those who aren’t “to their standards”. This way of life needs to change. We need a refreshed government one who support us and one we can rely on. In this day life's fast pace and people tend to miss the good things about it when they are stressed out about unimportant things. Today’s society is difficult and unreliable to the people. Everyone should have trust in the people that rule them, that they will be there for them and keep them safe. We have created this Aristocracy
Society offers very little positive
