Amazon Rainforest Biome

As a result of deforestation and other causes, as few as 10,000 species go extinct every year, with a multitude lost in the rainforests across the world. The Amazon Rainforest, the largest rainforest in the world, houses roughly, “40,000 plant species, 427 mammals, 1,300 birds, 378 reptiles, and around 3,000 freshwater fish,” as well as more than 100,000 of invertebrate species (Amazon Wildlife). The rapid loss of the Amazon rainforest, precisely 17% in the last fifty years, critically cripples the biodiversity of the rainforest. To explain, every vehicle that destroys any sort of foliage is a loss to the animals that live in the forest. The Interdependence of plants, animals, and humans is integral in the Amazon Rainforest ecosystem of the tropical rainforest biome. The key features of the Amazon Rainforest is the Amazon River. The Amazon Rainforest goes through Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and many other countries. Colombia has 10%, Brazil has 60%, and Peru has 13%. 80-90 degrees during the day and 50 degrees at night is the temperature of the Amazon Rainforest. There are dry and wet seasons. it gets 9 to 10 feet of rain a year. The terrain is in the Amazon Rainforest are rocky mountains, wetlands , plains, valleys, rivers, streams, and highlands. The dirt is poor with very few nutrients and it is very muddy. It is also dense with trees and rotting logs. The thin topsoils, made of decaying vegetable and animal parts, take up all the nutrients. In the Amazon Rainforest there 's the Congo River, the Rio Negro, and the Amazon River.

It is actually owned by 9 nations. This biome is situated in the amazon basin of South Africa. The Amazon Rainforest covers 5,500,000 km2 (2,123,562 sq mi) of total 7000000 km2 of the Amazon basin. This particular rainforest cover more than 50% of the world rainforest biome. My biome is Temperate Rainforest, the animal I will be talking about is a grizzly bear and my plant is a tree. The Grizzly bear is the key member to the Temperate Rainforest. With the Grizzly strong jaw he/she can take down any sort of prey. Throughout the winter Grizzly bears hibernate and conserve there energy. During spring time the Grizzly bears thick claws help them swipe at fish. When new cubs are welcome to the Temperate Rainforest they have to stay with their mom for 2-3 years, only to make sure they can survive on their own. This means after the cubs turn three their parents leave them to be alone in the world. Grizzly bears are omnivores they can eat seeds, berries, roots, and deer. Male grizzly bears can grow about up to 6.5-8

The tropical rainforest biome is an ecosystem covering around 6% of the Earth’s surface and being a home to over 50% of the plant and animal species. These environments are hot and humid all year round, with the average amount of rainfall being 250cm per year. The temperatures in a rain forest minimum tends to be around 20OC with the temperature not rising above 34OC regularly. Tropical rainforests are found spanning from both sides of the equator between the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn meaning rainforests are in Central and South America, Southeast Asia, Africa and Australia.

The cattle ranchers came in the amazon 1960’s and we use the land to raise cattles and earn money for Brazil.

Tropical Rainforest make up a total of 6% of all of earth’s land surface. Not surprisingly though, it produces 40% of all of earth’s oxygen. There are 4 levels to the tropical rainforest; emergent, upper canopy, understory, and forest floor. The rainforest received it’s name because of it’s self-watering system. Plants release water into the atmosphere through transpiration. This moisture usually has no place to go which creates a thick cloud cover over the rainforest causing the humid, hot, atmosphere. In the the rainforests are large rivers that branch off into smaller rivers that help to provide water for the entire forest.

I decided to do my presentation on biomes but not just any biome, I decided on the Tropical Rainforest. The tropical rainforest biome is an ecosystem that covers 6 percent of the earth. They are found all over the earth but the majority lie in South America. Tropical rainforests are defined by their hot and wet climate. The average temperature in this area is around 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. These areas often get up to 12 hours of sunlight due to being located on the Earths equator. Obviously, since it’s called a rainforest, it gets a lot of rain. Most rainforests get up to 100 inches of rain annually.
