Amazon River dolphins, like all dolphins, are cetaceans, a specific type of mammal (Odell 354). Some subspecies of the Amazon River dolphin include the Bolivian and Araguaian River dolphin. Another name for the dolphin is the Pink River Dolphin (Amazon River Dolphin).
Amazon River dolphins weigh two hundred twenty pounds to three hundred fifty pounds (Carruthers). Males grow up to eight feet and females are not that much smaller, growing up to about seven and a half feet long. Amazon River dolphins have a unique body structure.
