Throughout the years there has been a consistent need for people to reach out to help the Native American community. This is due to the fact that statistics tell us that there are many Native Americans who abuse drugs and alcohol. This sometimes leads to addiction and the consequences they have to deal with are, losing their families, becoming addicted, or hurting their families. It should be taken into consideration that although there are many things Indian country needs to work on, there are also many ways we can help create better spaces for these people to heal from such traumatic experiences. The services includes; health screening, education and prevention programs for diabetes, obesity and HIV, screening and access to child immunization and shots for adult clients. This service is extremely important because so many people are lacking health care, especially if they come from a small reservation they might lack the capacity to for example find a disease like cancer, in one of their patients. They provide access to primary care by making contracts with different community clinics and medical providers for medical, dental and specialty care. They also provide culturally sensitive services because there are sometimes cultural issues between the doctor, and the patient due to different belief systems. The clinic provides services like physicals, management of medicine, STD/STI screening, pap smears, pregnancy testing breast exams, and contraceptives. It is important to note, that the also have health services for seniors/elders, nutrition and weight loss. The only requirement is the patient has to be a member of a federally recognized tribe or one that is state recognized to receive health education/service programs. So they should act and make decisions in the best interest of the seven generation(unborn generation) to ensure the health of future generations. They offer multiple programs like: DMH innovations, native pathways to healing and family emergency preparedness program. The DMH innovations program integrates care that includes mental health and substance abuse services. It is open to children and adults to provide community based and culturally focused systems. The Native pathways to healing provides services for those who have been victims of child abuse, domestic abuse, or sexual assault. There is a program called CHAT that is a child abuse abuse treatment program, which focuses on the child victims, by providing culturally centered therapy and advocacy victims. I am interested in this program, but it has become extremely difficult to communicate with the person who runs the program, so therefore I am not sure if I will be able to participate in it. The family preservation aspect focuses on serving families who are referred from the department of child and family services. They help with family maintenance, counseling, transportation, and services to help the parent get childcare, employment, housing and health care.
