For most of us, it was to be the last normal day for a long time. For some - those whose loved ones perished when the jets crashed and the towers came down - it was to be the last normal day forever. But on Sept. 10, 2001, it was business as usual. The Yankees were doing well, and even Mets fans had reason for hope. Michael Jordan was going to the Washington Wizards, and Venus and Serena Williams advanced to the U.S. Open final. Venus would win. Michael Jackson had celebrated the 30th anniversary of his solo career over the weekend with a star-studded concert. He showed up late, of course. In Washington on Sept. 10, 2001, President George Bush declared war on illiteracy; Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declared war on waste at the Pentagon; …show more content…

The cost of a pay telephone call was going up to 50 cents. A hair from Jimmy Hoffa was found in the car that a long-time friend had been driving 26 years earlier, the day Hoffa disappeared. Cops in Pittsburgh were after a footwear sniffer. On Sept. 10, 2001, blood banks were running short. American were asked to please, please give blood. As usual, most didn't. Elsewhere in the world, eight Iraqi civilians had been killed over the weekend by a U.S. and British air strike in southern Iraq. An Arab suicide bomber blew himself up on a crowded train platform in Israel. Israeli helicopters fired missiles into the offices of Yasser Arafat's Fatah party on the West Bank. On Sept. 10, 2001, eight foreign aid workers pleaded innocent before a Taliban court in Afghanistan to charges of preaching Christianity in that devoutly Muslim country. Muslim-Christian fighting in Nigeria left piles of bodies in the streets of the city of Lagos. Germany opened its new Jewish Museum. Locally, people were busy shopping despite vague concerns about
One of the most controversial events ever to occur is still being talked about to this day. September 11th, 2001 will forever go down in history as one of the most tragic disasters to hit the United States of America. It was heartbreak for all of us to see those towers fall and thousands upon thousands of American lives destroyed. One might ask themselves; didn’t everything get explained a little too quickly? Why did everyone so quickly forget the details to this tragedy? The events of September 11th, 2001 are surely going to be remembered for its brutal truth and will always remind us of the hate that we as humans can create. The events of September 11th happened so fast that lots of details were overlooked but now, six years later one
“What separates us from the animals, what separates us from the chaos, is our ability to mourn people we’ve never met.” This quote from author David Levithan in his book “Love is the Higher Law” captures the essence of tragity that ocurred fourteen years ago. Whether you were in the Pentagon, like my father, or watching the events unfold on television, it effected all Americans. As we as a nation look back, controversies about the success and failure of intelligence have become a relevant topic for discussion among the public and media in recent years. The disaster has brought considerable changes in the relationship between terrorism threats and crime, U.S citizens and the policies against terrorism. 9/11

When the space shuttle Challenger took off on January 28, 1986, an internal rocket ship part called an O-ring malfunctioned because it became too cold in the winter air. As a result, super-hot gases passed the O-ring and burned a hole in the side of the space shuttle's external tank. Once the outer container became compromised, the solid rocket boosters caused a massive explosion. All seven crew members died. Another tragedy occurred on April 16, 2007, at the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Seung-Hui Cho a senior at Virginia Tech committed two separate gun attacks approximately two hours apart. Tragically, Cho shot students in an academic building and multiple residence halls before committing suicide. In the deadliest shooting rampage at the time in American history: 17 students wounded and another 32 people killed. Ronald Reagan, the president of the United States at the time of the Challenger tragedy, spoke to the United States via his “Space Shuttle Tragedy Address” on the same day that the space shuttle exploded; similarly, Nikki Giovanni concluded the memorial ceremony at Virginia Tech after a murder tragedy in her “We are Virginia Tech” address. Ronald Reagan and Nikki Giovanni deliver similar speeches. They are successful examples of how to promote healing after a devastating tragedy and should be used as models for future tragedy speeches; however, Ronald Reagan’s superior ability to talk beyond
What happened on September 11th, 2001? A day that will be remembered and never forgotten, a day that many innocent people died because of a terrible tragedy that happened on September 11th, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York City. September 11, 2001 is a day Americans will never forget. It was a day that brought shock, anger, disbelief, and sadness to everyone. On that day, thousands of innocent people lost their lives due to an act that was unthinkable. It was the day that the United States of America was attacked by nineteen terrorists part of Al-Qaeda. That day was classified as the worst terrorist attack in America. September 11, 2001 changed America forever: in a way that we were not prepared for.
September 11, 2001, was a day that started like any other day. Businessmen and women went for another day of work; while, children went to school for another day of learning. However, before the morning of people's everyday lives could begin a tragic event occurred! The incident of September 11, 2001, was a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group Al-Qaeda, in the United States (“9/11”). Their plan was to hijack and control four commercial aircraft and use them as suicide weapons to target symbolic U.S. landmarks.

Purpose: After listening to my speech, the audience will be more educated on Texas’s roadside attractions, as well as relate to the sites I will discuss in my presentation.
The day of September 11, 2001 began as an ordinary day. Nobody anticipated that it would be the day the terrorist group Al Qaeda would attack America. People didn’t expect to see their loved ones for the last time that morning. Nobody believed so many would die, in one of the plane crashes, in the falling rubble, or by collapsing towers. While the Twin Towers were hit by two planes, the Pentagon was also attacked, and Flight 93 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Nobody thought that it was a morning that would cause the world to grieve.
When I was preparing for this speech, I knew I wanted to do this with a partner. Emily Struewing was the perfect partner to work with. Our goal was to pick a topic that appealed to our audience and how it would benefit our audience. Emily and I thought about issues we faced as college students and we came up with limited closet space. We did research and a survey and found out that multiple other students felt the same way. (Q.1.) The specific purpose of our speech was by the end of this speech, the audience will agree that the TechnoCloset would be a great investment for college students. I think Emily and I did well teaching the audience about our new innovation of the TechnoCloset because we gained attention, stated the needs, stated the satisfaction, and how it will benefit your future.
Laughter relates to positive thinking. The positive thinking helps us to improve our immune system and become healthier. It helps in removing the negative thoughts from our mind and not letting our immune system become worse further.
In my informative speech, the topic of the speech was how shoes can affect your health. As my attention getter, I used a narrative about an elderly woman who went through extreme pain from the style of feet at the time. I believe it was effective because it was interesting and the aspect of pain is something many people will listen to. I stated that I was going to be talking about what most people are doing wrong with wearing shoes, what specific shoes can do to one’s health, and ways to prevent shoes from hurting people. The was an implied relationship with the topic to the audience because I believe that everyone in the class wears shoes so they should care what the effects could possibly be.
September 11, 2001 was a tragic day for many people. The streets of New York City were in shambles and the country was in chaos. This very day did not last only 24 hours, it expanded into a week of utter destruction. The terrorist’s goal was to overthrow the United States’ government and tear us apart. At first they may have succeeded; but after the worst was over, we became much stronger than we were before. Everyone has their own story of how these days went down and changed their lives, for better or for worse. It did not matter who you were or where you were during the time of the 9/11 attacks, any story was harshly interrupted on that day.
