I agree with you that all states should have similar standards in providing licenses for healthcare professionals. Each state has different guidelines and requirements for nursing license. Some don’t even require CE’s for renewal, and some require certain number of practice hours within specified timeframe in addition to CE’s. I feel that continuing education provides us opportunities to acquire new skills and stay current with changes in the field. Each state must have unique need for the profession, and different political climate surrounds nurses. I believe that standardizing the licensure requirement will lead to higher quality of care and benefit patients. American Nurses Association has been advocating the baccalaureate degree
A discussion regarding the health care reform or even health care in general can be somewhat controversial. The definition of health is drastically different depending on whom you speak to. Many would define health as " a person's absence of disease, others would describe good health based on the status of mind, body & social well-being" (GCU Lecture, module 2, 2012). According to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, health is defined as "The overall condition of an organism at a given time". An individual's overall health affects the nation, this is where stakeholders come into value. According to Keele, Buckner & Bushnell a stakeholder is either an individual or an organization that either invest time and
The Indiana State Board of Nursing is a body of nine selected members, comprised of a mixture of RNs and LPNs. This board listens to cases regarding university nursing programs, certified RNs fighting for their license, and individuals who are trying to obtain a nursing license. It is up to their discretion whether certain actions of a nurse are permissible or not. They also make adjustments to the curriculums or higher education schools to ensure that they are producing good quality nurses.
Resources that relate to patient care have been cut, such as lacking an adequate supply of clean linens on weekends and nights for patient rooms. While resources relating to patient care have been cut, the CEO’s salary went up from $800,000 to $1,100,000 this past year. Nurses have mobilized and created a voice for themselves and are pushing to unionize with the California Nurses Association (CNA) to fight for more resources and better wages. Since the protesting and unionizing rallies, Huntington has hired expensive anti-union companies to surveillance, intimidate, question nurses and try to divide and oppress the unionizing efforts of the California Nurses Association (CNA).
Texas has a rapidly growing population with complex healthcare needs, but has limited resources in terms of healthcare provider workforce. There is an expanding need for healthcare in Texas even without taking federal reform into account. Currently, more than forty percent of states have adopted full practice authority licensure and practice laws for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN). Texas is not one of them. Currently, APRN’s are regulated by both the Texas Board of Nursing and the Texas Medical Board. Passage of Senate Bill 681 would grant full practice authority to APRN’s, and therefore be regulated exclusively by the state nursing board.
Tennessee board of nursing offers advanced nursing registration to nurses with qualifications at graduate levels who have achieved certifications in various areas of specializations. The state board applies the title Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).The state board also recognizes the advanced practice obligations as provided in the National Council Of State Boards Of Nursing (NCSBN). Nursing care is a dynamic field of practice. The way it looks today is far out greater intense and very structured. It advances itself by the use of nursing theories and evidence based practice. Policies and procedures constantly change with the advancement of technology and science. While caring for the patient in the given case studies, a nurse involved utilizes practical knowledge, a culture care model and transpersonal caring relationship to attain a caring environment (Smith & Parker, 2015).

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is supporting efforts to reduce or eliminate musculoskeletal injuries associated with lifting, repositioning, and transferring patients. According to the American Nurses Association (2016), the average nurse will lift 1.8 tons per shift and over 38% of nurses will experience a back injury during his or her career. The ANA endorses legislation that requires healthcare facilities to implement the use of patient handling assistive equipment. Through this initiative, the ANA hopes to ease some of the nursing shortage issues that are compounded by work-related injuries.
